I would give my vote to the Carsomyr +6.
It gives more magic-resistance, adds more damage, dispels spells whenever it strikes etc.

see ya!

There's a better halberd, called 'Ravager +4', who again can be upgraded by Cespenar, but no better two-handed sword.

see ya!

You could say that Psions Blade +5 is a better 2-hander than the silver sword, it has better THAC0 and damage, and gives mind shield, rather than the occasional one-hit kill. Exxon is right about Ravager though, its one nice weapon

Best 2-Handers in BG2:
Carsomyr: +5, Magic Resistance, Dispel Magic every hit
Dragon's Breath: +4, with 5 points of elemental damage each hit (like the Flail of Ages)
Silver Sword: +3 (I think), chance of vorpal hits

Best 2-Handers in ToB:
Carsomyr: +6, otherwise just the same
Ixil's Spike: +6, enemy must Save (vs. Wands?) or be pinned for 3 rounds, taking damage each round
Ravager: +6, chance of vorpal hits, might also poison enemy
Staff of the Ram: +6, chance that enemy will take additional damage, be stunned & knocked backward

The Mage spell Total Immunity makes the caster invulnerable to all weapons, except those of GREATER than +5 enchantment.

Do not upgrade the Carsomyr. The changes to it will be rather small, not a big difference, just the +6 THAC0, while upgrading the Purifier will give much more additional properties to it. Simply look at what you will get - same ole Carsomyr, just +6 THAC0 (+5 is QUITE enough), or Purifier which will gain quite a bunch of improvements? I'd upgrade Purifier ANY DAY. More useful.

Is Keldorn in your party? If so, upgrade Purifier. Now you've got two +5 Holy Avengers. If not, pick whichever fits your style better: to me Carsomyr is perfect. Two-handed means no shield, but +50% MR is hard to beat.

Haven't seen anybody mention Gram the Sword of Grief+5. It's really good, and you don't have a paladin.
