at first i thought that a weapon's speed factor meant that the lower the number the more often you can attack with it (which would make daggers and short swords the best weapons in the game), but how does that work with your character's number of attacks?

is speedfactor only used when determining who gets to hit first in a round? if that is the case, it doesn't seem that important.

but this brings me to another arguement of why weapons are so screwed up in DandD. (like a staff being better than a spear, or a warhammer being less damaging than a club, i just dont get it.)

but anyway, what does speedfactor mean?

Weapon speedfactor only applies to the first attack by a character in a round.

The lower the speed factor, the faster the attack.

e.g. speedfactor 1 weapon strikes before speed factor 5 weapon.

After the first strike, the attacks are simply alternated with the faster weapon stiking first, slowest second etc etc.

It's not vitally important.

Speed factor is critical if you sometimes make use of the Hit'n'run tactic to take out hard-hitting, but slow enemies, such as Greater Mummies, Mindflayers etc, etc.

what's with the boots of speed...for some reason my char doesn't even roll for 2/3 times, even though he has the attack animation.

Any character will always make

5 attack animations per round when Unhasted
6 attack animations per round when Hasted
10 attack animations per round when Improved Hasted

So it doesn't matter if you only really have 2 attacks per round when unhasted, the animation will still display five times.

Boots of speed aren't even supposed to put the haste effect on you. In BG1 they only increased movement rate, and still allowed you to be affected by haste, giving you quadruple movement speed, which I believe was meant to be the case in BG2 as well. That's fixed in the Baldurash patch as you said though.
