I am not a huge fan of country music. Some of the older stuff is Ok, like Hank Williams Junior, some of George Straight, stuff like that, I hate the new stuff..

But anyway, what is it about country music, so many people dislike? You can make your own choices but I am just wondering what exacly it is about it alot of people hate about it?

All those tears make your beer taste funny? Personally, I need something with a little more drive to it.

LOL, ok, given some of can be a little goofy..But all music genres can.

Just about any rap song you can laugh your ass off too.

Lets not remind everyone of how rock was in the 80's. With all the hands bands and stuff.

Alot of Alternitive rock has some goofy lyrics too.

But hey, country music does have some deeper stuff. How about Johnny Cash?

You've basically answered your own question. It just depends on the people around you and the general taste to decide which is considered to be the most "goofy" genre within that particular group of people.
There are a lot of people who dismiss any music containing a rapper or even a mere guitarriff as being resp. too "rappish" or "too metallish" (seriously!) just the same... Narrow-minded intolerance towards entire genres (rather than judging music beyond the boundaries of genres) has always been around; some out of misplaced elitism, some out of some sort of "fashion statement" in high school - just because all your friends hate country-music, you could be isolating yourself if you don't make puking noises every time Willie Nelson is mentioned. And since country music as a genre is rather popular among certain parts of the population in the US, I suppose it's an easy target for people to dislike en groupe as some sort of pariah threat to their (high school) coolness.
Here in the Netherlands, country music on the radio is pretty much non-existant, though; so the intolerance and the dislike-by-default among the people here isn't as strong as for example in the US... We have our own embarrassing equivalent of country music to deal with (schlager ).
And I personally think Johnny Cash is great, especially the American Man Recordings Series.

The term "country music" is pretty wide as it encompasses many sub-genres of southern music such as "Zydeco", "Rockabilly", "Cajun", "Bluegrass", "Folk" etc. However, what we refer to "country music" these days, is usually reserved for the more comercial, polished ala "Nashville" type. The thing with contemporary country music is that it tends to have a bit of "Pop music" influence for example, Faith Hill, Shania Twain among others. Personally, I quite like country music for their honest, down to earth, story-telling style and sometimes ironic lyrics. Just give a listen to Trisha Yearwoods' "Walkaway Joe".

Don't they actually use "roots" nowadays to encompass all those sub-genres?
