I sincerely have my doubts about how they can even pay the salaries of guys like Ronaldo, Beckham, Raul, Roberto Carlos, Figo, and Zidane. I don't think they'd settle for minimum wages, just so they can play for Real. A very shady footballclub at the least.
Real may be broke, but for some fishy reason they aren't allowed to go bankrupt or even put into administration like a some financially troubled clubs in England. Heck they can even continue on buying more star players like last year David Beckham for 25m pound. Makes you wonder wtf is going on?

I heard that Real Madrid is the Royal family's team or something like that right?

What I wonder about is that you only need a at least two superstar status strikers and a solid team with a superstar goalkeeper (well that's me). Why get get all of these high-priced people?

What pays Real Madrid's players? In my head its the people's taxes... funny thought... if true... a sad, sad thought.

You should've written Real with a small starting letter to make the topic more confusing.

SUCKERS! Too ugly? Maybe Becks looks better but he is waaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaay out of Ronnie`s league. The guy is the best dribbler under the Sun (Denilson is also very, very good) and he`s too ugly. Becks on the other hand has just a good look (yeah right) but he cannot play. I mean everyone in the Champions League can pass and shoot free kicks at least as he can if not better, (Zinedine Zidane)

Bah... Ronaldinho`s the man.

My understanding is that Real is partially funded by the City of Madrid, right?

Real Madrid is not directly funded by the city of Madrid but they did help them out big time recently. When Real was in huge finacal trouble they sold there training complex to the Madrid Council for about 200 million Euros. A vastly over inflated price. One German team and one English team are supposed to have directly complained to UEFA about this. The two teams are believed to be Man U and Bayern Munich.

Because of this training complex sale Real are actually believed to be in quite a good financal situation now unlike say Barcelona and Valencia. Kakero made a great point about how teams in places like Spain can still be allowed to function with such huge debts when teams in many other countries simply wouldn't. Take for example France were Monaco were briefly relegated because of there financal situation. This summer Moanco will probably have to sell some of there stars like Giully, Rothen, Prso etc if they want to avoid relegation. Either that are they'll need a new Abramovich like figure to save them.

Yet travel across Europe to Italy or Spain...

Barcelona are in a far worse financal situation than Real Madrid yet are expected to spend at least 40 million Euros in the Summer. This REALLY annoys me. In Italy Roma and Parma are in financal trouble yet can still keep huge debts and are allowed to compete in Europe... Something UEFA needs to sort out IMO.

Frances example should be followed everywere IMO if teams run up huge debts they should be relegated.

Parma might not be so lucky this time. They don't have a sugardaddy like AC Milan. There's a good chance they are being set back to the third league or something, just like what happened to Fiorentina.

That still doesn't make sense to me though. I mean bankrupt is bankrupt. They shouldn't even be allowed to play football anymore, or on amateurbasis at the most. Throughout the years a few Dutch clubs went bankrupt, like FC Amsterdam, and FC Wageningen, and they simply don't exist anymore. Too bad for those teams and their fans, but if you can't run a healthy financial business, you have no right of existance.

Saw in Forbes Mag...

Man U being the riches ballclub. No surprise there. next is Juventus, the third... I forgot, and Real is fourth. It seems they are doing great... heck I don't even see Ajax FC anywhere... EDIT: didn't read johnny's post... whoops!

Chelsea is owned by Abramovich right? I forget...
