the long sword has a status of 1D6 I think.. and the bastard sword has 2D4...what does that mean...and when you get a +1, +2 or +3 weapon, what bonuses does that contain?

Well 1D6 means a roll of 1 six sided dice (you can roll from 1 to 6)
2D4 means 2 rolls of a 4 sided dice (you can roll from 1 to 4 plus another from 1 to 4 for a total roll from 2 to . The bonuses: you must add the bonus to your roll. So if you roll 6 with a sword +2 your roll is 8, and you will deal 8 damage (plus strenght modifiers). Also deacrease the thaco, so if your base thaco is 18 (you need to roll 18 in 20 sided dice), with a sword +2 your thaco will be 16 (you will hit your enemies more easy). Besides this all, there are certain things that modify both things (hit rolls and damage done) such as armor, resistances, strength... hope this helps, if not, ask again please |

the long sword is 1d8. Bastard Sword 2d4. The only thing positive that the bastard sword has vs the long sword is that it will do 2-8 dmgs and the long sword 1-8.
the bonus is for the Thac0 and dmg. in THAT order 'cause you can have a long sword +1 +4 and that means it will confer a +1 to hit and a +4 dmg. |

A good way to compare the damage is to figure out the average damage it would do in a hit. Just add the max and min damage and divide by 2.
Mace: 2-7 dam=4.5 damage Long sword: 1-8=4.5 damage Bastard sword: 2-8=5 damage Two-handed sword: 1-10=5.5 damage |
