How long does it take for the wall to turn yellow? And I'm not TOO sure on this one, but I think coming into a room which walls have been turned yellow due to chemicals from smoking and sitting there for a long time will not get you lung cancer.

Yeah, i think the cancer is caused by the smoke. I'm not 100% sure, but 99.99999999% sure that it isn't. So, its safe to set in the room.

Nope. Of course not all smokers develop cancer nor are destined too just like not all sunbathers will develop cancer although sunbathing can cause skin cancer.

Of course an even bigger health risk and bigger strain on public health resources is obesity:
Link on the health risks and costs caused by obesity

Why arent unhealthy foods as heavily taxed as tobacco?

Quote:
When compared with normal-weight individuals of the same age and sex having similar social demographics, obese people suffer from an increase in chronic conditions of approximately 67 percent.

In contrast, the increase for normal-weight daily smokers is only 25 percent, and for normal-weight heavy drinkers, only 12 percent.
Obese individuals spend more on both services and medication than daily smokers and heavy drinkers:

For example, obese individuals spend approximately 36 percent more than the general baseline population on health services, compared with a 21 percent increase for daily smokers and a 14 percent increase for heavy drinkers.

Obese individuals spend 77 percent more on medications -- only aging has a greater effect -- and only on expenditures for medications.
We also have these cancer causing health risks to contend with:

Link about common pollutants, like diesel emmissions, that may cause cancer

Quote:
very small set of chemicals and chemical categories account for the majority of health risks associated with hazardous air pollutants, according to Scorecard's screening-level analysis of EPA's exposure estimates:

Nationally, just 8 chemicals account for 99% of estimated cancer risks. One pollutant - diesel emissions - accounts for almost 80% of the estimated lifetime cancer risk associated with outdoor hazardous air pollutant exposures. More on the public health impact of diesel emissions.

Yes, please, I hate that! cough cough hack hack...

Let's face it. Smoking shows weekness. Nobody ever got up one day and said "hey, I need a cigarette!" It's all pier pressure. Some succumb to it, others have the strength of will to be able to say no. I've always been of strong will and that's why I don't drink or smoke. I know people many people think I'm better than they are because of it and there's nothing I can really do about that. But, it feels a lot better to say "no" than to give in to it.

Hash is actually more carcinogenic than tobacco. Also, most joints do not have sa good filters, if they have them, so that makes it worse.

BUT a heavy pot smoker will smoke less pot than the average tobacco smoker and so the effects are lessened.

Plus you can cook it into stuff!

People start for a number of reasons, peer pressure (not the weight of a large jetty sitting on top of them I may add ) is one of them, but there are plenty. Those who do succumb to peer pressure, are very mentally weak. And that drives me mad. (IF YOU CAN'T READ DON'T BREED!) But there are still alot of reasons people start. And once they're addicted, they always wake up and say "hey, I need a cigarette!".

For the record, I am not a smoker, I have never taken one drag of a ciggarette in my life.
WOW thats about the most ignorant thing i've ever heard smoking shows weakness? Just because you don't smoke doesn't make you a stronger person then someone that does.

Ignorance or truth? I'll only speak for all the smokers I know. They all started due to "peer" (thank you) pressure, life or work related stress or to simply fit into a group. I don't think there's one smoker here, or outside the forum who didn't start for one of those reasons. The body doesn't crave cigs, even if your parents smoked (and both mine did and do) it doesn't mean that you will automatically do so.
I will also bet that the first time someone had a cig, they thought they were going to puke! But, they suffered through it in order to fit in etc.
So, don't call me ignorant and face the truth, or tell me why you started.

Wow what is not Ignorant about MASSIVE generalizations everyone started from peer pressure? Sure somepeople did, but everyone No THANKS. I started because I was walking around on base, in cuba where I used to live, and asked this guy I didn't even know if i could have a cig he was like sure kid, gave it to me and I lit it and kept walking. I asked because I wanted to try one and wow like some people do I enjoyed it so I kept on smoking and i still enjoy it. SO don't look down on anyone who smokes it doesn't make you stronger in anyway it makes you who you wanna be its your choice just like it was my choice noone asked me if i wanted to I asked for one to try myself.
