Ah, yes. My first bolt was way back in BG1. My party and I were walking through the mountains on our way to a gnoll stronghold when Minsc and Boo noticed a crevice with evil. Inside the cave was a bear, and my mage figured it'd be a good idea to fry the beast. Sooo, the bear took some damage as did most of my party. Luckily they all survived so we managed too kill the bear and cook it. Afterwards we returned to Nashkell for some healing...

Lightning bolts cause forest fires.

Hey! I thought I was the only one stupid enough to kill my _entire_ party that way. I got Baldur's Gate and instantly remembered "Eye of the Beholder" where fireball fried everything in front of you. I forgot about "progress"

S'Funny tho.

In Dungeon Master, if you were unencumberd, you could overtake your own fireballs, turn around and get hit in the mush with them (that was FUN!) - I did that on purpose to find out which spells generally did the most damage

RWP (Real world physics) is a little bit more reliable - I can never work out those angles or the random rebounds back into my mages' face.
Actually, since I only play pool after numerous alcoholic beverages it's pretty much the same

Ugh! Lightning bolt **shivers**

Even worse...Wand of Lightning bolts...6 separate bolts at one time. Yikes!

The only time I've had a lightning bolt work well for me is either when outside or if I can cast it into a small room and slam the door shut before it rebounds. Hee-hee! Toasted Umber hulk anyone?!

Now where did I leave that doughnut?!

This reminds me of a nother bloody annoying experience.
.
At one point in the gaqme, some attackers may confront you in Athkatla streets. One of them casts Lightning Bolt. I had the Cloak of Mirrors at the time.
.
HOWEVER, when you reflect an attack, you take ownership of it. So, when this lightning bolt killed 3 citizens, I LOST SHIT LOADS OF REP!!!
.
I reloaded and used protection from lightning (and took the cloak off)

Lord Shield, I had something similar happen to me...

Spoiler:
:
:
:

I had just returned from the Underdark with my evil party, who'd never payed the cowled wizards for a magic liscense. My first stop was the slums. The githyanki showed up wanting their sword back. Naturally, fighting broke out. Having been away from town so long, I'd forgotten about the cowled wizards, and cast a spell. So, now the githyanki and cowled wizards are both attacking me. To compound the matter, a lightning bolt bounced off one of my guys, and killed a peasant. My rep was already low to begin with, so guards & knights from the Order of the Radiant Heart showed up to kill me also. Pure chaos.
