as usual, plucked it out from the numerous junk mail ive recieved. this story is pretty heart warming.
Subject: DARTS A young lady named Sally, relates an experience she had in a Seminary Class, given by her teacher, Dr. Smith. She says Dr. Smith was known for his elaborate object lessons. One particular day, Sally walked into the seminary and knew they were in for a fun day. On the wall was a big target and on a nearby table were many darts. Dr. Smith told the students to draw a picture of someone that they disliked or someone who had made them angry, and he would allow them to throw darts at the person's picture. Sally's girlfriend drew a picture of a girl who had stolen her boyfriend. Another friend drew a picture of his little brother. Sally drew a picture of a former friend, putting a great deal of detail into her drawing, even drawing pimples on the face. Sally was pleased at the overall effect she had achieved. The class lined up and began throwing darts, with much laughter and hilarity. Some of the students threw their darts with such force that their targets were ripping apart. Sally looked forward to her turn, and was filled with disappointment when Dr. Smith, because of time limits, asked the students to return to their seats. As Sally sat thinking about how angry she was because she didn't have a chance to throw any darts at her target. Dr. Smith began removing the target from the wall. Underneath the target was a picture of Jesus..... A complete hush fell over theroom as each student viewed the mangled picture of Jesus; holes and jagged marks covered His face and His eyes were pierced. Dr. Smith said only these words..... "In as much as ye have done it unto the least of these my brethren, ye have done it unto Me." Matthew 25:40 No other words were necessary; the tear-filled eyes of each student focused only on the picture of Christ. This is an easy test; you score 100 or zero. It's your choice. If you aren't ashamed to do this, please follow the directions. Jesus said, "If you are ashamed of me, I will be ashamed of you before my Father."

bloody hell; thats REALLY EVIL! how could that guy do that to them... incredable. Im astonded, and aparently not-so-lost for words.
There is ONE big difference however, if *I* was the one who had the chance to throw the darts, I wouldnt. no, this isnt with hindsight. and of course, this completely misses the point of the story. But I dont care. I know what this guy was trying to do, and I am sickened by it. [ 06-23-2002, 11:20 AM: Message edited by: Calaethis Dragonsbane ]

The teacher proves a very good point. If you are a follower of Jesus, you should love all people, even the bad ones.
It may seem cruel, but to be able to follow Christ, it's all or nothing. You give your all to God or you get nowhere. You cannot go halfway. I do hope the students learned something. The first thing that they should have realized (and this was in a Seminary Class, mind you) was that they should not have drawn someone they disliked in the first place. You must love all, if you cannot, how can you truly love Jesus? That's my take on it! Mark |

thats not the point. you can forgive your 'fellow man', you can follow Chris; but that DOES NOT excuse the teacher for making such a horrible object lesson. He had NO right. besides, Jesus doesnt require that you love all people, only that you try.

aa perfect lesson, If *I* had been one of the children, *I* would have been tempted to a) lecture him on the bible, b) turn around, and fling the dart at *him* or c) storm out of the room.
All of these may seem childish, but I would not like to be manipulated. would you? how would *you* recact? do you think its *right* and *moral* to trick, lie and be deciteful to children? I dont.

I don't believe the story was about children. The only clue was that the girl was a young lady. That could mean anywhere from teens to twenty year olds.
You have missed the point of the lesson. What so ever you do, to the least of my brothers, that you do unto me. Mark [ 06-23-2002, 11:59 AM: Message edited by: skywalker ] |

It may have been an extreme lesson but just talking ot the kids wouldn't have made a difference IMO. At least for some time they will think twice before hating someone like that
