I try and make every day a happy day. When I wake up in the morning and I'm lying in bed thinking about how awful today seems, I just talk myself into being happy about it - it helps a lot. I can't say I've ever had a 'happiest day' of my life, but as I say, I try to enjoy every one equally. I am a happy person in general

Crikey Neb, that's rough - hope things start to look up for you soon. And listen to what that DragonMage lady says, that's good advice.

My best day so far? Mmmm - hard to tell. I'm fairly happy most of the time (normal life stresses and bad hair days excluded), but I think my best day was when I finally saw the temple at Abu Simbel - oh wait, no, the Pyramids... Arg, I can't decide. Look, that whole Egypt thing was the fulfillment of a childhood ambition, don't expect me to choose!
Or it might have been when I was in Romania, that was pretty cool, oh heck! This is too difficult. Making up with my brother after 7 years not talking, that was great (although was at a family funeral, so ups and downs there - mmmm, that probably knocks it out of the running). Actually I gain a great deal of fulfillment just by feeding ducks in the park, I'm fairly easy to keep happy.

Perhaps I still have a couple of *extra* special days to wait for!

It's really not that bad once you get used to it.

And after 16 years of it you kinda do.

Neb, sounds like you're describing acute depression.

As for myself, I'm an abuse survivor. A happy day is a day spent knowing I love and am loved, in trust and harmony: and this has been the sum of days since I met the woman I married eleven years ago.

fable has a good point here, Neb, hon. Maybe you should look into this some. I am honored to be there for you and cheer you up as you do for me - as friends SHOULD do. *HUGS* But if it's more than a self-esteem issue or teen angst, maybe you should talk to someone with training...??? Either way, I'll always be here for you.

And fable - *BIG HUGS* That's SO wonderful! I love hearing of another who has come through 'the ringer'. I, too, was abused - as a child and then in my first marriage and then emotionally abandoned in my second marriage. I kept going believing that one day it would all be worth it. And it IS! I now have met a wonderful and loving man. It makes everything worth the torment I've been through. And it's true - knowing that you do truly love someone and they truly love you in return is the best feeling in the world (imho).

Neb I can relate to you're problem. I don't have many days where I'm happy the *entire* day either. Trying to stay cheerful the entire day is a waste of effort on my part, especially when I have so many *slightly* annoying friends. Just the way I am. You might want to take Fable's advice though.

Anyway the best day of my life, was probably the day I met my best friend of all time. She really tried to bring me out of that always neutral attitude, and for the most part did a good job.

Neb, I'm sorry, but it is rough - you deserve to have some happy times. I'm not saying everyone should be happy all the time, but it sounds as though you rarely feel 'up'. Please take heed of the advice given by fable & DragonMage, they speak sense (mostly )

Neb - agree entirely with that! You cannot possibly have every little thing go right for a whole 24 hours. It just simply doesn't happen. There is a sketch from Rich Hall where he rants about people saying "Have a Nice Day!". You know they don't mean it because you can't possibly have a totally nice day. It would make more sense if they said "Have a nice 15 minutes!" as that is at least beleivable. You could have fun for a good fifteen minutes and your life could be perfect, but in the 16th minute you would step in some dogsh*t and ruin your shoes or something.

But I have to say the "Happiest" day of my life was when I realised potato skins were edible...
