I couldn't make this up...

From Yahoo News....

Quote:

WELLINGTON, New Zealand - New Zealanders' love affair with sheep gained official recognition Friday when the agriculture minister declared Feb. 15 "National Lamb Day." New Zealand has 4 million human inhabitants and 60 million sheep.

Agriculture Minister Jim Anderton suggested New Zealanders had no reason to be embarrassed about their sheep population, and said Lamb Day would mark the 125th anniversary of the first shipment of frozen meat from New Zealand to London.

"We hope all New Zealanders will recognize this meat industry milestone and mark it by enjoying lamb for dinner on Feb. 15, to celebrate 125 years of meat exports," Anderton said.

So... who's first up for some lamb?

I love how at first it seems like they revere the lamb but finish with a suggestion that everyone eat it for dinner, lol.

Mmm... reading this article reminds me of how mouth-wateringly-delicious lamb steaks were in New Zealand.

Yummy.

Doesn't beat Turkmenistan's "National Melon Day." Before Niyazov kicked it, they also had harsh penalties for anyone defaming or blaspheming the country's national fruit.

I really am, God as my witness.

Dude spent half the nation's budget on giant, rotating gold statues of himself constant illuminated by spotlights around the clock. Oh, and ice palaces in the middle of the desert. His autobiography was also part of their mandatory school stuff.

Lamb racks all around the table. So do you buy gifts for your loved one?
