Kakero, what Stormymystic meant was that you could back up your files if you have a CD-RW/CD-R drive(ie. burning your files/data onto compact discs for storage). Also, there are online servers out there that provide file storage services. Hence, one can upload their data on-line and have them stored in the server HD. Plus, there are other options as well such as Iomega Zipdiscs, Imation SuperDisks, External HDs etc. etc.

Something you may want to try to repair your H.D. I'm using 4 Western Digitals with raid support of course. Try running a low level format i've had success several times when these start to click and sometimes freeze your P.C. And like the others have said back up your your files.

Ohhhh... clickity click.... SAME thing happened to our hard drive we just replaced.

Atleast OURS would re-boot sometimes so I had time to back up all the files with Norton Ghost.. Dude, The head is what is clicking, and that is BAD.

Ours had bad sectors and clicked, but booted, so the head was either misaligned and scratching the platters or something else.

In other words, it's a dying sign for HD's.

About it happening when you move the mouse, are you 100% SURE it's not your PC Speaker that is popping? I've teched PC's and when I moved the mouse, their PC Speaker would sputter...

Like everyone here has said before, if the sound is definitely from the HDD, then that is a bad thing. Something to do with the small ball-bearings I think, they are misaligned or something like that. In any case, backing up files NOW is the best option, and getting a replacement. That is just bad luck, a new Hard Drive and already busted...hope they do replace it for free...

Btw, it is worth checking whether its your speakers or HDD. Does the mouse move fine? I mean, is it still smooth? Not jerky or slowed down when the HDD "clicks"?

And to make sure, it isnt the normal HDD chattering that happens when it reads or writes to the drive?

IBM used to have sound files you could listen to to tell the difference. I'll see if I can find the link. BRB

Those sounds are scary!
Get your HD checked and replaced if needed, it's new after all.
Backup important data with your cd writer (you have a cd writer, don't you?)

And look to the positive side of the whole story: you get to clean up a bit of the trash you unleashed on your HD and never found time to sort. In my experience, 25% of what is on HD is pure unneeded rubbish.

I contacted my local hardware dealer (the same place where I have bought it), and they said that it was probably my second hd (maxtor 20 gig, OS) that was clicking.. because the mouse software and drivers are installed there (though I do believe it was just the speakers on board that made the clicking sound)

The 120 Gigabyte ATA133 10200 RPM Liquid Bearer 8 mb cache harddisk is cooled on a a liquid base, hence the silence and the occasional click (so I have read), though nothing compared to the link to Hitachi (luckely)

Thanks for the support guys!
