As to your questions: Spyware is software that sends information about your computer and internet usage patterns to 3rd parties without your knowledge or permission. Most of it is generally harmless - they only want data for advertising and crap like that. But of course it is an invasion of your privacy and is damn annoying. There are things there that you haven't heard of or seen before because they install themselves when you visit certain sites. Get rid of everything that is picked up by ad-aware or spybot - search and destroy as dangerous. That's how you get rid of them - run spy detection software and anything it picks up as dangerous can probably be safely deleted. I don't know what "sto" means.
ok yes teacher master sir, I am sorry lol see cpaital I and hey I have only had 8 hours of sleep in a week so sto..... teasing, lmao

Twice, I have had a website take over my browser and become my homepage, and would not go away. I went to the registry and did a search on the name of the website. Everytime it came up, I would delete it from the registry. At least one of those deletions was a key that controlled the homepage. When it got deleted, I was able to rename my homepage to what I wanted with no further problems.

SpybotSD kills such hijackers much better than adaware does, especialy the porno ones.
Both programs are essential. Dont use just the one.

Or try BHOcaptor which is specialised in removing spyware that attach to your web browser. You can find it here, which is pretty much the best anti-spyware site I know: http://www.spywareinfo.com/

Sometimes I feel that people don't even read a post and just respond to the topic header.
Thanks for the reminder about editing the registry Larry. I forgot to mention that I had done so but you are correct in stating that it cures many evils. johnny and Willow, thanks for the sites you mentioned and I'm going to give both programs a try. AdAware and Spybot are both supposed to have updates for this in a few days so I'll have a cure by then. Sorry about causing confusion Vaskez, what I meant is that the spyware didn't spawn over to netscape. |

No problem Stormymystic. The wondering was about those suggesting I do what I had already stated I had done. Ask away for info. As you can see there are plenty of friendly and helpful people here. Knowing about spyware is something that you need to know about if you are visiting the internet. You were definately on-topic. You'll know a hijacked thread when you see one, and you will see one here.
