Guild question

OK, I am having problems understanding how the guild quests work with multiple characters.

I have just started the game and cleared out the cemetery and part of the crypt. I returned to town and had one warrior join the guild (that was all I could afford at the time). She was told to kill some guy (can't remember his name). When I left town I ran into this guy and killed him. Going back to the guild she is given 200 experience points and told to go on another quest. I then had another warrior join the guild and he was told this second quest. He didn't get any credit for killing the first guy. I reloaded the game and had him join the guild before my first warrior got credit for the kill. He still was told about the second quest. Should I have had all my warriors join the guild at the same time? or does it matter? It is all very confusing and the manual is a huge waste of paper.

Any clarification anyone could give me would be very appreciated.

There are quite a few threads on the whole guild/quest credit issue here that you may want to research, but in a nutshell, the concensus seems to be that yes you should try to get all characters to do the same quest at the same time. Some of the quests will be acknowledged as done by subsequent characters (with appropriate advances given), and others not. And you need to make sure to have the appropriate character selected when returning to the guild to get credit, and if there's an item involved, make sure that char. has the item too.
