My Priest wanted the Instant Death spell, so she
took it. It works good. So good in fact that any
mobs killed with it do not yield any exp, nor
does the caster get credit for the kill. Wth?
I have the latest patch installed.

I seem to recall a statement from Sir-Tech stating that if you kill a monster that had not taken damage from anyone, then you would not get credit for a kill. You should get the exp though. If you are not getting the exp for the monsters you kill with Instant Death then you should definitely report it to Sir-Tech. (Sorry, I forget the web address)

I wonder if it's related to the "killing monsters with instant kill spells won't hurt your faction ratings" feature.

In any case, I'm sure it's a bug, but one that can be manipulated.

Way it works...

Install Kills...

Install Kills will not be rewarded to casters. Instead, they will be rewarded to whoever physically hits them. If no one hits them, and Instant Kill happens, no credit for the kill is given to anyone, but you get the XP regardless.

So example A:

Group marches, fights monstersA.

Priests casts Install Kill and kills three of them, after the fighter has hit one of them. The fighter gets the kill for the one he hit even though the priest did the kill with the spell. All XP awarded. However, for the two that were not hit by anyone, no one gets the monster kill credit, yet the party still gets XP for them.
