Hi,bud.
I know the answer to this one!
You have to get the bauble stick from Rethpian, you can then use the stick on the key (which is a crystal) and get it through the gate which can only be opened from the other side.
It helps if you give him a rat pie!

The bauble stick is in the chest in the other room near Rethpian. It's a little difficult to open, though. Be wary of traps.

Welcome to the board, cube24816!!!

Glad you are finally past this sticky (groan) bit!!! It isn't exactly what I would call and obvious puzzle!

Keep us posted on how you are doing!!

Why did you whack Rethpian, you bloofthirsty hack n slash?

I'd like to see you pull the same trick on Oakenmir later on.

I still wish there were moral and game penalties for those people who go around, acting like Romulans, murdering NPCs.

And Justice For All

Now, now, Si... no need to get all harsh and everything. Cube24816 is just getting started around here, so there's no need to scare him (or her) just yet.

Besides, depending on Cube24816's gaming background, the idea of being able to kill NPCs that provide useful information may be a new one. In many games, you can't kill those NPCs, only the monsters you're supposed to kill. So I'd give Cube24816 the benefit of the doubt, particularly as a brand-new poster.

Besides, you and I both know what will happen if that pattern continues. He'll irritate Oakenmir and wind up a pincushion...

I do agree with you, however; I wish the game reacted differently based on your actions. Some Might and Magic editions have attempted to do that, but not excessively successfully.

Apparently there had been plans to have W&W react according to how you "kept your oath". DLimbaugh found a file that stated something to the effect of your character being consumed by the wrath of the Mavin Sword. Perhaps if the game hadn't been rushed to market, it would have been included! That would have been neat!!
