I finished the game for the first time today, and one thing makes me wonder.
Should it really be that easy to kill Irenicus at the Tree of Life?

After reloading a fe times I thougt I needed a new tactic, I approached Irenicus before killig of the last parasite and notices that he is not hostile. I skip around a bit and places four trapps around him, kill of the last parasite, listen to the dialog, and poff, the bastard is dead. No fight no nothing.

Should a "fight" of such an imprtance in tha game be that easy to get around?

You're right the A.I is way to weak, for instance: Firekrag has the same a.i as an ogre.

Yeah, that's another thing, to kill a dragon you just walk up to it while it's nonhostile and cast magic resistance on it, this wont eaven turn him hostile but sets his magic resistance to a puny 20%. After that all you need to do is get out of sight and cast all the cloud kill, deatfog and similiar spells you got. The stubid bastard just stands there in the cluds untill he's dead...not to smart.

Here's my take on the Irenicus/Tree of Life scene:

I don't find it surprising that Irenicus doesn't go hostile on you prior to destroying the last parasite as he is deeply involved in concentrating on draining the Tree. He is only disturbed when you slay the last parasite and even then seems groggy (reference the dialogue).

He is fairly weak in fighting you as well because of your disruption of the ritual. Now, with that said...

If you choose to use "cheese" tactics, then that is your prerogative, however, the battle is meant to be fought face-to-face. I agree that Irenicus should be inaccessible prior to him confronting you, but it didn't work like that so it is upon the players to avoid using too much cheese.

As for dragons:

The designers at Black Isle have stated that they are making some significant changes to dragon AI. I don't expect that there will be much opportunity for cheese after they make their modifications. Seeing as they had around 50"ish" responses on the Black Isle board as to, "What do we need to change relating to making dragons more challenging?". I think that all cheese was covered there...

So...don't try that trap crap (hey...I'm a poet and didn't know it) in ToB or your thief will be a dragon toothpick.

Now where did I leave that doughnut?!

Just put three lightning bolts in a spell sequencer and zap!
Works at the Tree of Life and at Spellhold (doesn't even give him time to clone you)

i really dont think cheese tactics are any fun. it may let u advance in the storyline easier. but thats the whole point of having a hard enemy is to make it a hard challange so you cant just cheese your way through the game. just my opinion but anyone who cheeses major bosses such as dragons, irenicus try it next time not doing that and you can have some entertaining fights

The cheese tactics are really easy to avoid and wouldnt just happen by accident so unless someone holds you at gunpoint and forces you then just DONT USE THEM.
