I've downloaded some of those cool portraits and now I'm trying to
create a new guy, but I can't figure out how to use those portraits.

Any help would be helpful. I read the readme file, but that really didn't help. Oh yea, I'm playing BG.

Thank YOu

There is a BG1 forum for this. But while im here, you can use portraits by going into the readme and checking the naming convention - IIRC it has to be xxxl.bmp and xxxs.bmp for the large and small portraits, but dont take my word for it.

Then shove them into the portraits folder in your main BG folder. then create a character and select the new portrait.

Umm... the folder called "Portraits" - it's in the main BG folder.
Check if the pictures have the right size (don't know the requirements off the top of my head, but they should have the exact right size in pixels) and check if they are named correctly and if they're bmp files. Hope that helps

If the folders not in the BG directory, then create one named portraits, for some reason not everyone gets this folder when they install BG im one of those people.
