Cloudy's Cafe

Come in, be welcome, be comfortable, be yourself

Welcome to Cloudy's Cafe, a place to have a cup of coffee or a good
darjeeling and the finest in conversation and camaraderie.

The proprietor asks that you follow a few simple guidelines:

this is a real conversation zone, not a role-play zone

* no flaming; if you disagree with a viewpoint expressed by any patron, please do so in a civil manner

* any topic is fair game, but keep posts to the standards that Ziroc has set for the entire forum, please (ie: foul language is not appropriate and things should be suitable for all audiences)
-a side note from Cloudy: I see this as a place for those short
conversations about a new baby or the latest soccer fiasco, not for things that are big enough to warrant their own threads, by all means give those things the space they need and post separately!

* Please, no one word or smiley posts (Ziroc has declared them 'real spam' and the proprietor doesn't want the reputuation of "good spam" to suffer!)

* do feel free to be serious or silly and enjoy the company of others while you are here. By all means POST if you have something to say, even to start another topic , we can handle multiple chats, we're a CAFE!!! But be courteous and don't disrupt a conversation just to disrupt it.

Come on in! The bar is stocked with coffees, teas, juices and waters from around the world. And purple napkins, of course!

The lighting is low, the golden oak counters and tables glow with inviting warmth. Near the window, the lighting is brighter, as comfy, plush leather armchairs wait for those who'd like to read a book while relaxing to music or just lazily watch the world go by.

PLEASE NOTE

This is a modified reminder that I've posted before in reply to someone asking "can we spam the cafe". It still holds true, so I'm going to repeat it periodically for anyone who hasn't seen it.

Read the first post of the thread, it's NOT a spam zone. If you want to discuss you grades, a problem with a teacher, the weather, your neighbor's new car etc.....etc.. (real life conversations) this is the place. I don't mind a SMALL amount of spam but when the Cafe gets to be 8 pages in one day and it's all one liner pure spam, I have to ask people not to do it because most of the members who would come to talk about their day or things that they want advice or sympathy or cheers on, will not post in that atmosphere. I want you to be comfy here, but not at the expense of other members.

So the answer is NO, I don't want to see page after page of roleplay spam or one liner spamfests that could be done on msn or aim etc. because our goal is to TALK WITH one another , not fill up a cafe in five hours.

First post....

Man, I'm glad I finally caught up on my sleep...though I wish my roommate would stop making me get him up an hour before I have to be up!

Start getting up an hour before HE has to be up and wake him up....he may figure it out or you'll end up with a new roomie!

Why's it your job to get him up? Is he unable to fathom the workings of an alarm clock? And what benefit is it to your life to be his personal alarm clock and slave?

He's an adult... let him deal with it.

Morning, all. Church band practice last night really irritated me. Got there on time, and the other band was practicing... so we were going to go into another room. No problem... I'd brought my electronic drums. Ten minutes later, one more person shows up... and 30 minutes later, we have me and three singers... no other musicians.

Ended up not practicing, just picking music. I was bright and cheery, lemmetellya... having loaded up all my gear for nothing...

Now we're practicing Saturday morning... we hope.

I'm guessing it's not because he has to wake the roomie up....more like he's being woke up BY the roomie. If that's how it is, I recommend the waking him up an hour earlier than he has to be up to let him see how it feels to be Ilander in that situation. If you ARE being his alarm clock Ilander....I'd suggest oversleeping..

I'm not being his alarm clock per se...He just never shuts the alarm off...often expecting me to do it, then set it for 8:25, after the 8:00 time HE had set it for...and if I want to go back to sleep, I pretty much have to do it.

It would be a good ide to pull the same on him, though...

You could shut it off...

... with a hammer
... with a drop to the floor
... by yanking it out of the wall
... by throwing it out of the room
... by throwing it out of the window
... by lining up one shot with a pistol
... by throwing a boot at it

These can be particularly effective if you set them up the night before...

"Hey, what's that?"

"A pistol (hammer, boot, etc.)."

"That's weird. Why do you have a pistol (hammer, boot, etc.) next to your pillow?"

"So I can turn your alarm clock off in the morning... "

Do that for a couple of days, and then set up a tube of K-Y Jelly. When he asks, say nothing... just grin...

I promise... he won't go to sleep at all

Now, there is one quirk to this... you *do* have your own alarm clock you're using, right? Otherwise, he's the one in charge.

*edit* Oh, one last thing. If the authorities come to question you about any of this, I was never here....

My alarm clock has a very large dent in it one night when I slept two hours. I think that shooting the alarm clock might be a little extreme. If we're going for coolness points, using a katana to slice the thing in two would be mad style, especially if you could catch it on camera.

Yesterday was hell. For those of you who know what a beep test is, you will know what I'm talking about. For those who don't, it's basically a shuttle run (running between two points,) to try and gauge aerobic ability. Gradually, the time intervals get shorter. In any case, I am helping a buddy to get his master's in kinesiology by participating in a study to make one of those that works on the ice. Now I'm in pretty good shape, but in the dressing room afterwards I almost blacked out - and I still had an hour doing hockey stuff on the ice, and an hour of dryland left.

Needless to say, I am tired.

I like the katana... nice and visual. And probably more accepted in a dorm room than a pistol would be

BTW, that sounds like something my old soccer coach would have done to us if we ticked him off. We generally did that once per season... Hope you were able to recover soon enough!
