Nightmare in Store

Being the twentieth chapter of Stackman’s adventures

In which the party members go into shock pondering the gruelling task just ahead and in which a green myopic scaly fabulous monster gets a clean cloth with which to wipe the glasses he should have had centuries ago.

Soon the door opened and the party stood face to face with the ancient dragon Erathsmedor. Or that is to say Erathsmedor was for the moment preoccupied with Kol the Heretic, who had beat the party to it and made his way to the third watcher of the Mavin before them.

But that was the last thing he was going to beat them to. The giant dragon killed him with one bite of his sharp fangs. The party walked up to Erathsmedor who told them the story of the Mavin and other folklore legends. The valkyrie then said the word “Elseramavin” (taking the word from the word list; not typing it in as it would then be perceived as the word “Mavin” (as explained by Radek in a topic concerning the matter)). Then she gave the dragon the shroud of Elsera (walking up very close to the dragon as explained in yet another topic on this matter). Erathsmedor then opened a door leading to a room where the fabled Mavin sword was placed on a pedestal. The blade twinkled in dimly-lit cavern.

The valkyrie took the Mavin and sheathed her Sword of Kerah. They had reached the destination Gareth had sent them out to find. Now they knew that was not enough, however. They had sworn the sacred oath, and now they could not stop until they had vanquished the evil that lay ahead, the one named Cet.

From the cave the party stepped out into the warm night air and breathed freely again. They stood atop the great Dragon Spire. Barely visible below them was the kabuto of the samurai Torin. The warlock cast the create portal spell, and the party camped just inside the cave for the night.

After having eaten a good meal the party made preparations to rest for the night. Suddenly Stackman came up the path that descended down the mountain. He joined the circle of adventurers by the fire. “We have retrived the Mavin”, said the Valkyrie, “but we know there is more in store”. “There certainly is”, replied Stackman. “You have come more than half way, but much remains to be done”.

The party members looked at Stackman anticipatingly. Stackman knew what they were thinking. “And yes, your exploits do not go unnoticed at the great Forum”, he said. “In fact you are very popular”. The party members looked at each other smiling. “But you must hang in there now”, Stackman continued, “for soon you will come to the greatest test of them all”. With those words he left the party. The assassin and the valkyrie looked at each others with a grave expression on their faces while the bard started playing a quiet tune on one of his lutes.

Next morning the party descended into the grove north of the Dragon Spire. They had not walked for many hours before they encountered Brahmar and his gang of bandits. What ensued can best be described as one of the world’s most feeble robbery attempts. A whirling dervish spell disposed of Brahmar’s bandits, and an incinerate spell finished him off. The party used the remains of the day to explore the rest of the small grove, where they would also have encountered Grue Morde if one of them had become an assassin in this game.

When night fell they teleported back to Ishad N’ha and rested for the night. Next morning they went to the magic shop and were rewarded for having retrived the eye of the Colanth. Thus ended the third and last quest given by the wizard guild of Ishad N’ha. Then they visited town hall and were rewarded for having disconnected the bronze firebeast and for having killed Brahmar. Thus ended the second and third of three quests given by the town hall of Ishad N’ha.

The party left Ishad N’ha again, knowing that they would not really have any business there anymore in the course of this game. With this in mind they teleported back to the Dragon Spire and walked the few kilometres from there to the port of Brimloch Roon.

Outside the city gates they looked at each other and their hearts dropped. They would soon be facing the biggest challenge of them all… And we are not talking about fighting demons, spectres, and a resurrected pharaoh. Not at all! That would be piece of cake. No, they were facing the most unsettling experience of them all: Sabastio’s dreaded Mada Mabbig speech SIX times in a row.

NPCs encountered:

Erathsmedor reacts to following words:

Secret, Cet, Mavin, Anephas, Kerah, Watcher, Chosen One, Ruins, Destiny, D’Soto, Prophecy, Angel, Dark Lord, Fate, Dragon, Shurugeon Castle, Erathsmedor, Hephaestus, Shurugeon Ruins, Castle, Elseramavin, Sacred Word, Shroud, Wisdom, Machines, Ancient, Champion, Sacred Sword, Story, Purpose, Invention, Light, Arthur, Pharaoh, Elsera.

With “Elseramavin” (when selected from the list) being the word that triggers the important action. (Erathsmedor’s asking for the shroud and subsequent handing over the Mavin.
