I like the British spelling of colour and the like (it looks more elegant to me) but then I like the 'z' in generalize better than the 's' (and it's a zed, not a zee) lol
Canadian English is kind of a mixture of the two. For the most part we use American terminology (trunk vs. boot) and British spellings, but there are exceptions. We like to confuse people! And, Father Bronze, keep thy red pen. The poor English being turned out these days is atrocious! I know my spelling and grammar aren't perfect, but I do so hate to see a wonderful language abused! In what other language can you say the same thing 100 different ways, each with a slightly different nuance? A person's choice of words, or even of alternate spellings, is very indicative of personality and provides the written word with a myriad of styles. |
