New thread so as not to completely derail the actual one (by asking another question!)
Great idea Cerek! I don't understand why some people are having so much trouble sticking to the gameplan though? Can those who have posted outside of the rules please explain why they did it? I'm not coming down on anyone, I'm just interested to know why a simple game is so hard to follow? DO some people read only enough of a thread to get a post in? - ie: the online equivalent of listening to a conversation only for the gaps, where you can start talking about yourself... It seems strange that although several requests have been made, some people are insisting on ignoring it and if it wasn't for a few members struggling to hold it together, it would have all fallen apart. Cerek's 'rules' weren't meant to be followed on pain of anything - merely a way to keep the thread coherent and fun. [ 02-12-2003, 10:08 PM: Message edited by: Leonis ]

That may be so, Tancred, but it really is much easier to follow the thread if Cerek's game is played the way he asked us to play it. It lets more people participate that way, too. When several posts at once are asking questions and giving answers it gets confusing and then more people just post out of order and it becomes a big chat/spam fest instead of the nice get-to-know each other thread he meant it to be.

I know. I'm certainly not saying otherwise. Just, well... it's hard to combat human nature. But, then... everyone knows that too.

Did you ever play a board game? You have to follow rules on Monopoly, Chess, Checkers, Parchesi, Backgammon.... so why is it so hard to follow a few simple game rules here?

I must confess I have laundered and stolen money while playing Monopoly.
On a totally unrelated note, how many people use the 'lottery' house rule in Monopoly? You know, the one where all money from fines, community chest and chance cards is placed in the midle of the board rather than going to the bank, and whoever lands on 'Free Parking' can claim whatever is there at the time? Anyone?

On topic - I think things should go OK now, Cerek and Cloudy, or at least I hope so. Your warnings and explanations were more than clear. |

Like Tancred said it's hard to fight human nature, and it seems like almost everybody wants to get in on the fun.
