everyone has different strategies. Some people like to put traps around him and stuff, or use a lot of cloudkills. I think two very important steps are to first cast magic resistance on him (yes, on the dragon- this will lower his magic resistance from like 100% to like 25%- a nice bug in the game) and to get the first hit in by telling him you're not going to fight him and then attacking him while he's still blue.

after magic resistance you can use Harm to get him to one hp. anyone who cant beat him then probly cant get ther in the first place.
