I thought he looked skinny to me too when he first wandered into my yard. I fed him one night like 5 doggie treats LOL.

Unfortunately there hasn't been any "hits" on the adoption website. Also, I found out he is a "flat haired" retriever, like a golden retriever, just not golden. Sweet boy. I really wish I was unaware of him, as I feel so helpless..

that dog looks to have a but of chow in him, he is gorgeous no matter what, the reason I say this about the chow is the purple on the tounge. that is a trait of a chow I wish I could take him, but we do not have a place ofr a dog of such needs here

Yeah I noticed the spotted tongue! Chows do have that, but usually it isn't spotted but just all black or blueish. I dunno, maybe retrievers have a similar spotted tongue triat. I have family that has Chows, and they are way bigger than Jack. Jack is just so lithe on the hindquarters, don't think a chow could get that way, as they are pretty even re weight distribution on their bodies. Chows are great dogs as well, as long as you tame their aggressive side (which some do have from what I've seen).

Bah. I hate being in the middle of this. I didn't adopt Jack. He is a neighbor's I never talk to. I don't even want to know about this sort of thing!!! But because he keeps visiting my yard now I've gotten attached, and now feel involved. This really sucks, cause I'm gonna be just incredibly heartbroken and depressed if I cannot successfully help find Jack another home, and the neighhbor just takes him to the pound, and like, I don't even know until later and he's been gassed.

Pissed.... DO Not Ever Buy or Get a Dog if You Are Not Committed to taking Care of its Life, it's entire life. Pets are not toys, they live and breath and feel.

*sigh*

Well that looks like a cool dog. Some friends of ours have a dog like that and all I can say is the need loads of room to run and burn up that energy. What our frind did was get a tenis ball and bat and they would hit the ball as far as they could and let it run. These dogs need more then a walk. So maybe he is not having enough running to stop it from chewing everything.

Either way I hope it turns out good for jack.

Big dogs do need lots of exercise and running room. Too bad poor Jack can jump over his fence or it sounds like he'd at least have room to run around!

actually, if he is mix, as it appears he is, he can show more of the retriver body (which he does) we had a dog once that was Shepard/chow/lab mix, and the only thing chow on her was her tounge. she had this short hair coat, very thin body, and had silver markings on her black coat (I miss that dog).....I would help you out if I could, but as I said, I can not have pets here, and even if I could, if he is that active, I do not have room for him

Thanks Mac Attack, I hope so too. I mean I know there are probably lots of people who'd love to have him, but I don't know how to advertise him. And my sis-in-law's adverts on her dog website already has two others of the same breed up for adoption. Sigh. I just hope maybe the neighbor will have a change of heart, and just care about him as much as I do (and I've only had a few "run-ins" with him).
