Ok, I just got back from seeing the movie. I'm not gonna give away any plot stuff, but wanted to say that it's a long movie. It musta ran for about 3 hours and 15 minutes. They had previews for about 15 minutes. They originally were just gonna do 1 screening, but so many people showed up, they ended up doing 3. All at the same time, cause everything else was closed down. I saw the midnight showing. A lot of special effects in this one. Maybe too many effects to see in one sitting. If you have really young kids, you might wanna wait for the DVD. Lot of people had leg cramps when we left. If you wanted a good seat, you had to get there an hour early, so I was sitting down for 4 1/2 hours. LOL. Anyways, just thought I would give you guys a heads up. Overall it was a very good movie. I'd have to give it two thumbs up. !!

EDIT: Oh yeah, 1 of the previews they showed was for Spider-Man 2. Just thought you guys might want to know that. It's scheduled for July 2nd (I think it was the 2nd.) They showed Doc Ock!!!!! Anyways, even more reason to go.

Watched the special LOTR TRIPLE FEATURE ( all 3 films in 1 row with just 15 min. breaks between!) in a local cinema yesterday. Ouch, my a$$ and legs still hurt! But it was very cool to see the whole story on one day.

I have to say that I like the first of the three parts most. IMO, it's the closest to the book (just dropped some parts of the book but not so much "Holywood-elements" added like in film 2 and 3 (for instance Aragorns fight and fall with the Warg(s); Faramir takes the hobbits to Minas Tirith just to give Sam the chance to heroically save Frodo from the Nazgûl; Legolas' "special battle-moves")). The HUGE battles in part 2 and 3 are, of course, pretty amazing. But I can't get rid of the impression that there's a bit too much comedy in them (Gimli becomes the 'clown' of the show ).

As I said, my opinion, no offence meant.

Ahh but Gimli was the comic relief in the books too, the score keeping, the complaining during the long chase, etc... it seems that Tolkien used him a lot to lighten the mood of the narrative (as well as using Brandybuck and Took). He might have gone a bit overboard in RotK, but I felt it wasn't TOO far away from the spirit of Gimli's character.

I think the trilogy is an instant classic... and has no real competition in recent history. Although maybe it's just that movies have stunk for soooo long that I'm amazed to see one that is actually GOOD.

Even as good as the first film was and as much as I love it, there are two scenes that I absolutly hate.
First is when they are going to the Bridge of Khasad Dúm in Moria and the stairs are breaking, they all get over except for Aragorn and Frodo and then their part of the stair starts to fall to the side, Aragorn tells Frodo to "lean forward"... and the 400 tons of rock actually changes direction when they do...
Second is also a Aragorn scene when he is Fighting Lurtz the Uruk Hai leader and Lurtz throws his shield at aragorn who is up against a tree and the shield stops right before it chops his head of... ugh I know it's fantasy but thats ridiculous...

In Two Towers the only scene that bugs me is the Warg Attack, it's a cool scene but Aragorns fall is over the cliff... I mean the top... or what ever...

Good point Jorath... the swaying rock scene was definitely cheeze. Additionally the animation of that big rock breaking and falling is too obviously CGI. The motion wasn't realistic at all (you could see the animation pivot point at the bottom of the moving block of rock). A small thing but when the rest of the effects are so awesome it stands out.

Another "weird" scene in the Two Towers for me was when Legolas` throws a Shield then he stpes on it,slides down the stairs and shoots arrows. Nice eye candy, looks cool but still weird IMO .
