K, I'm sure I'm not the only person at IW who suffers from this. My cat likes to lie on top of my car. Normally that wouldn't bug me, but the fact that he leaves pawprints all over newly cleaned glass and paint...especially wet paws, as they were this time, makes me a little mad. My brother suffers the same, but with a different cat.

My question is is there anyway I can keep my cat from treading on my car without killing it or putting a cover over the car? I mean I know they're attracted to the fatal lily...but this is my cat

The General suggests socks or shoes for your cat.

There is no way to keep a cat off anything that it wants to be on. If it gets something set in its mind it is usually pretty determined unless you can make it get board of trying. Xan my fish is on like the 5th shelf of my teak bookshelf. That does not deter Gizmo, the tailless wonder from climbing from one shelf to the other so he can get up and poke at Xan. He has even made it to the top shelf and knocked over my two bamboo plants, you can remove him but he just goes right back until he gets board or something else gets his attention like a laser beam, the little porker.

Than another time both Gizmo, and Sindbad must have been on the fridge play fighting and knocked over a fairly large plant ,because when the fiancée came down it looked as if someone had planted a garden in the kitchen.

The only thing more annoying than one cat is two cats. But I loves them.

We have indoor/outdoor dogs...who like to eat cats

I don't see why he would go up there if he's bored...all he does is sleep when he's on the cars...other places to sleep!

But few places serve a cat for sleeping as well a a car does!

Sunbeam - check
Warm surface - check
High enough off the ground to be able to observe all the subjects of it's domain (us lesser mortals) - Check Check Check
Nice jumping point to get to the roof of the house - check

Go to your pet store and buy this:
No Stay or Cat Repel or this Simple Solution.

I don't know if it is ok to put on your car or not though, but it should work. For indoors, use aluminum foil most cats (except my younger one) hate aluminum foil.

The foil works on my indoor cats, not sure about outside, but harley's suggestion might work!

I never had much luck with sprays but this stuff called 'bitter apple' works on things inside. I found it in the pet store as a deterrent for dogs who chew furniture and stuff... but I have NO idea what it might do to car paint, so it may not be an option, LB.

This would make sense, except:

Car is parked under carport, in shade
Cold surface
Unless the cat can jump through concrete and up an extra story, no way he can get to the roof from my car

I'll stop by Petco on my way to get dinner today and check out the spray stuff. Aluminum foil would seem nice but I dunno how I'd get it to stay on my car...and do you have to cover the whole area? Thats a lot...and a bad fasion statement, lol.
If the spray doesnt work or warps my paint or something, maybe I'll just tether one of the boxers next to my car for a bit, or unleash the pack when I catch cat on my car

Hmmm... call me cruel, but a mild electric current on there for a day or two may do the trick. Cat jumps on, gets zapped, jumps off... repeat twice, maybe three times, and no more kitty on chevy.

Now, I'm not advocating electrocuting cats, regardless of my personal preferences. But a little behavior modification goes a long way...

I should also note that I haven't had any cats in a long time, and have no idea whether this would work or not. It's probably also effective against children, but the police have more teeth on these things than the SPCA will
