I have played a lot of 2nd ed. AD&D over time both PnP and on computer.
IwD 2 is my 1st contact with 3rd ed. rules and I have quite a problem with character ACs.
In 2nd ed. rules - lets say - the worst AC is 10 and the best -10 (I know - they can get lower or higher). How does this compare to 3rd ed. AC ??? Asked in another way - which 3rd ed. AC corresponds to 2nd ed. AC 0 ??? Or - for example - how good is 3rd ed. AC 20 ???

I know the principle behind this 3rd ed. AC rules - the higher the better etc. but I have no idea of the *relative* value of a certain 3rd ed. AC.

I hope this is not too confusing ...

In 3rd ed the basic ac is 10, then you add the dexterity bonus/penalties and any racial bonus/penalties to the ac and that is the ac of a creature with no armor or any protection... and the higher it is, the better and harder it is to hit...

I am no expert on the rules, but I thought that it was a 1/1 ratio, beginning at 0. So if 0 ws the same for both rule sets...then 1 = -1, or 2 = -2, etc. If your question was not confusing...then my answer certainly is!

3rd ed. AC 20 is the same as 2nd ed. AC 0.

3rd ed. AC 30 is equal to 2nd ed. AC -10.

AC 10 is the same in either system

P.S. For IWD2, just remember that higher is better and you'll be less confused.
