Still... if your HD has bad sectors, that's bad news... so if that isn't the problem, then that means that's a new problem...

Bad sectors are generally a sign of physical damage to the drive platters. This is usually caused by parts out of alignment. As the platter contacts the head, damage occurs. It will get worse with time.
