Today, they have been working absolutely fine - no problems or worries whatsoever... until now. All of a sudden, four out of the five speakers just refuse to emit sound. This means that if I want to listen to music, I have to turn the volume up loud so that the one little speaker bleats its heart out a hearable amount. Two of the speakers crackle every now and again, looking as though they are about to show signs of life, but then go dud like the others.

I have tried changing some configurations in the speaker settings, but nothing seems to make them all work.

This used to happen before - every time I closed "Knights of the Old Republic". Time usually sorted it out, waiting quarter of an hour or so. However, I've been waiting a long time now...

Any ideas or suggestions would be great, thanks.

Took out the connection, blew in the holes, plugged them back in... not working.

Did the same again, but rearranged them in a different order... not working.

Could it be that it's not the connection between the wires and the computer, but the connection between the wires and the speakers?

OUCH!!!

I had to turn my speakers on full to hear the music. I was also playing Call of Duty at the same time. Then you know what? Yup, my speakers decided to work... scared the living socks off of me! One huge blast wave of noise!

I need to... lie down...

Oh, and thanks, Ross.

I would say it doesn't sound like a software issue except for this last remark. Try rebooting your machine to see if it works correctly, or try patching KoTR/installing different audio drivers. If all else fails try plugging the speakers into another audio-output device such as a cd-player.

I was going to ask if a reboot had been tried... and another set of speakers. Anyone nearby have some that you can try out? That would tend to prove or disprove the speakers as the source of the problem.
