When I installed the Heart of Winter expansion, I decided to scrap all my old saved games from the original Icewind Dale. (I hadn't played the game in months after getting stumped, and stuck, by the puzzle room in Dorn's Deep. I also wanted to rework my original party to include a druid to take advantage of the new spells for that class in HoW.) My question is along these lines: I remember that in the original, non-expansion Icewind Dale, there was a fairly awesome bastard sword that you acquire before getting to Dragon's Eye. The weapon was consecrated to Auril Frostmaiden, and bore some title to the effect of "Snowmaiden's Fury" or "Wrath of Winter's Maiden" or some such. For my money it was the best melee weapon in the game; it glowed with an ice-blue flame and could freeze opponents solid. I have vivid memories of my Northlander swordswoman freeze-drying lizard men in Dragon's Eye with the sword (pardon my French, webmaster, but @*?/! the friendly "lizardfolk" of the otherwise great 3rd Edition) and my Tethyrian paladin hacking them into ice cubes; it made for some nicely sadistic yucks at the end of the day. My question is, does this sword still exist in Heart of Winter, and if so, where is it? Conlan's Smithy in Kuldahar doesn't sell it and I don't see it listed in the item list in the Ironworks HoW walkthrough. I'm of the "Monty Haul" school when it comes to scouring for treasure in these games, so I doubt that I've overlooked it. So I'm asking if the swords still exists and where, guys.

Question Mark

Welcome to the Forums, Thibbledorf Pwent!

Yes, the Snow Maiden's Reaver, a +2 bastard sword with an insubstantial blade of pure cold, does exist as a random item drop; it can usually be found in the Temple of the Forgotten God (at least, that's where I always found it). I always liked it, as well as Old Withery.

I thought I remembered getting it as a fixed item drop, but I could be wrong. It's certainly not the greatest sword in the game, but seeing an enemy explode into little pieces of ice never gets old.

Must be a random drop as I am fairly certain I have never seen it at all...

According to gamebanshee.com http://www.gamebanshee.com/icewindda...words.php#null Snow Maiden's Reaver is a random item found on level 2 of Temple of Forgotten God.

I got it once before installing HoW. After HoW, I don't think it exist as a random drop even after I tried rreloading a few times before entering lvl2 of the temple.

If you mean the sword "That looks like Xan's moonblade", then I don't think it's a bastard sword. I'm pretty sure it's two handed. There are two such swords that do frost damage... one might be a bastard sword, though I'm not sure. I am positive, however, that one can freeze enemies, and the other can do cold damage to them.

Since I can't edit, I have to double post

Either way, it is indeed a Great Sword. You cannot carry a shield with it

It CAN be used with a shield -- it's a Bastard Sword that uses the Great Sword proficiency. Bastard Swords are 1H in this game.

Keep this sword for use on all creatures that can't be hurt by physical damage and are not undead...
