If it might help, sure. A visit to a certain active thread around here would pay out too

Although possible, faulty RAM is more likely to cause random screens and exception errors.

Knowing a little of Stormy's history with computers I'm betting on a virus and/or worm of some sort.

I know, but in dual-channel systems these types of errors are not uncommon. It was a longshot, but I have to produce the most likely reasons of a certain problem to my customer(training for job kicks in).

hey, this time I am clean I use norton and trendmicro every week or two so it has to be the ram, this happened after the big crash that my husband caused, so it most likely got some kind of damage from that :/ oh well, I guess that until I can get a new system I am stuck not playing NWN

Well, you forgot to mention the crash part!

Before you do anything rash, I'd suggest re-installing all of your drivers including your motherboard drivers and a re-install of DX9 wouldn't hurt either.

If it happened just after a crash, I'd be willing to bet that some system files or driver librarys are corrupt.

EDIT: Go find a program called memtest on the web. It'll test your RAM for you before you begin taking your PC apart.

Or you can try the majorgeeks site and get Fresh Diagnose. I've been using it for a few months and it's a great program. Neat little gadget to have around.
