Thanks

I usually do Nalia's Keep, Aerie's (pathetic) Circus quest,
clean out the graveyard, bridge district Tanners, Temple district
guarded compound, Trademeet, and Windspear Hills. I save everything
else for later.

I guess it doesn't really matter though, as long as you do them all
before the end of the game

This is assuming you are taking the 'good' path, aka, pay the Shadow Thieves.

I basically get the money as fast as I can and pay Gaelen Bayle, then I do all the subquests I can do before proceeding to Chapter 4.

Me personally? I do about every quest possible in Chapter 2, Gaelan Bayle can wait. Especially now I'm trying out the new Darkest Day quests I have no intention of really going any further with the real storyline yet..

I think it depends mainly on if you actually want to keep Imoen in your party or not. You must start doing the shadow thief quests in order to get on the path to rescuing Imoen. I didn't let her back in my party after rescuing her because she was just way too low level at that point.

Like someone esle mentioned, considering you DO want to save Imoen, you can pretty much do all of chapter 2 quests and then go see him. I went and saw him at some stage again and he had put the price down to 15,000. Not sure why this had happened though.

First time I played, I did it after Nalia's stronghold.
Second time, right after the slaves at Copper Coronet.
I geberally do the quest right at the begining to get the two magic items and then I do all other quests before doing Aran Linvail's quests.

1. Gaelen will make a lower offer - a messenger will come to you to tell you that he has a new offer - don't pay before this.
2. Jaheria will not be called back to the Harper hold in chapter 2 (that is, before paying Gaelen). This is the beginning of a long and drawn out series of encounters - so it's better to start this asap.

So my advice is to pay as soon as Gaelan offers to lower the amount. After this, you also start getting offensive encounters with vampires - so you will gain more XP...

I do all the quests I possibly can
before I pay off Gaelan Bayle, and
I still pick up Imoen later. Actually
Imoen catches up nicely in ToB. She
is only one level behind Nalia.
