I don't really know what to call this thread but aw a book called this once and it seems like a fitting title...

I'm just wondering if anyone else has the same "flaw" as me that when you have to do something important in your daily life, like meet the bank manager, have a chat with your boss or teacher you always imagine it will go badly, that the person will make a big deal out of it and possibly scold you for having to "bother him" like that...
I don't know why I always feel this way, but it is usually unnescesary worry. I have had 2 experiences like this in the past 2 weeks, first was that I had to ask my bank to extend my credit allowance because my student loans were cut in almost half and I had to pay bills, I was sure she would refuse and actually start to ask questions on how I spent my money and all sorts of crazy stuff, I waited almost 2 days until I went, she looked up my file, asked me how much I needed and told me to have a good day... big worries for nothing...

Then I found out that I was late for sign up for a class I have to take this term, I flunked it last spring and because I was late I had to get a written permission to retake it, my mind went wild again, the teacher will see how badly I did last year and refuse, possibly scold me for not trying harder last year... but oh no... she looked at the paper... and signed it and it was done...! Sigh...

Now does anyone else have this stupid problem? Or even a suggestion about how to get rid of it...?

It's just a defense mechanism so that you're prepared for if it doesn't go your way. It's better that than expecting to get everything you ask for and being shocked and/or angry when you don't. It shows that you're looking at all aspects of the situation and preparing yourself for all eventualities - nothing wrong with it whatsoever.

Yeah I do it all the time. As long as whatever you're worrying about gets done in time though, it's not a huge problem . Plus I'm always pleasantly surprised when things go well then

I walked out of my 3rd year Thermo exam with one of those liftout diagrams (Carnot cycle etc) that had to be completed as one of the major questions. I arrived home and opened up my test to see how bad that horrible exam went and realised in horror that I hadn't handed in 20% of my potential marks on a test that I had done badly on. Dreading the worst, I drove straight back to see the lecturer and see if he would accept that what I had done had been in the testing period. Luckily I found a faculty door still open and he was still there (was 9pm) and to my stunned surprise he accepted the diagram with my breathless excuses and searched out my paper and put the diagram inside.

That was the only subject I came remotely near to failing, and I amk sure if the lecturer had wanted to be firm on the rules I would have bombed out.
