hey guys long time no see, err i've got quiet the problem you see, and it's stressing as hell, is that i have bought two wireless routers (they're tecom) with the objective of connecting me to my friend's house but the problem is that the routers do not have the option of finding the nereast acess point as the most wlan pci cards, does anyone knows how am i going to be able to make them connect to each other ... i've already tried to connect the two router with a cable and they are able two make a connection but through wireless they aren't able to detect each other.... HEEEEEEEEEELLLPPP.
ps - i'm sorry if i'm a bit off topic but in this forum there seem to some pro's such as ziroc and memnoch, and zazerac... [ 02-08-2004, 04:00 PM: Message edited by: Volguuz RageWaar ]

Shouldn't only one of you need a router? The one of you with the ISP gets the router, and the other gets a hub.
Do you have SSI broadcasting enabled so that other devices can see the router?

Unless your friend lives next door, I doubt it will work.

Routers don't find each other... NICs (network interface cards) find routers. So you both need a wireless NIC, and you both need to be close enough that you can spot each other's router. Or you could do it the simple way, and have one router that you both connect to. And you do have to be close enough to the router to make the connection -- as close as 150 feet. That ain't much...
Make sure to read the stuff about wireless security closely as you go through this. A secure network is a happy network, I always say. Is there a reason for not doing it over the internet? A little tunnel action can go a long way.

Good points have been made.
Bottom line, 1 router plugged in and powered up. 1 or more PCs with a Wireless NIC ON THE SAME FREQ as the router. WinXP is prefreable, but can be done with others. I'm not familiar with the brand, but knowledge says the best max at 300 feet, and the not so best as short as 75 feet. YOU MUST UNDERSTAND, once you have made connection, you must secure this set-up. Why? Because the world ain't honest! If a couple of young-ens can set up a 802.11B unsecure network, then some "not" so good folks can free drift on it. Next thing you know you are being tagged as running a server, and your ISP cranks up your internet bill to commercial size payments. Or worse, you are next in the hot list of being a spam server unbeknownst to all of you!
