Favourite NPCs (spoilers)

I know this has been raised before, but I was thinking that since a lot of people have played through the game several times now, it might be interesting to vote on the best (top 5)and worst NPCs. And then at the ebginning of next week we can count the votes and the lucky winner can be awarded the De'Arnise hold, while the loser can be fed to whichever dragon is still alive

So my votes:

1) Minsc. And Boo too! He's not the best fighter, but he's the most fun to have around. He has several speeches which crack me up. I particularly remember one where he talks about getting rid of evil so that he doesn't have to worry about tracking bloody footprints on his clean white tiles. Or something to that effect.
2) Keldorn. Much less funny, but useful with his powerful dispel magic, true sight, and ability to use Carsomyr. And he's got dignity.
3) Viconia. Can be amusing, and that magic resisitance is priceless.
4) Imoen. A decent thief and a very useful mage. shame she doesn't have any interesting scripting.
5) Probably Jaheira, annoying though she is. she does have an excellent sidequest (all that harpers nonsense) which keeps on going through most of the game


For evil-doers I guess Korgan and Edwin would come in. I've not used them much.

And now for the number 16 slot... Worst of the rest...


My vote is for Haer Dalis. Two reasons. He's crap, and he boasts about being the second best swordsman on the prime material plane (after Drizzt). Seriously. I just wanted to set Minsc or Keldorn on him there and then. arrogant sod.

I think:

1. Korgan - Very good dwarf-speeches I never got tired of + he is the BEST fighter.
2. Anomen - I found his stories quite amusing. He is a fighter/cleric, which is better than a pure cleric. His lower wisdom in the beginning, doesn't matter, because higher wisdom only gives more spell-slots to the first 3 levels or so, which you don't use that often anyway. (I didn't) I let Anomen use Carsomyr, which really improves his THACO.
3. Valygar - Good voice that you don't get tired of either. He can use stealth and backstab + he is a good fighter.
4. Jaheira - Useful in most skills, but master of none. The sidequests are very good, yes.
5. Jan - Has great thief-skills when you get him because of his items. He is a funny little gnome.

The worst npc is Nalia! When I was helping her free the castle and killing some trolls, the idiot girl said "How are we helping the less fortunate traugging (???) around in here". She is just annoying. Her thief skills are really bad too, but she is a good mage.

[Accord]

1) Korgan - excellent berserker fighter, give him an axe and he does the rest.
2) Nalia - decent theif for detecting trap purposes, can become a potent mage if you are patient enough.
3) Jaheria - only druid NPC in game who can use full plate armor and heavy shield, great spells (vs mages). Also, long Harper quest.....
4) Minsc - my favorite tank, let him dual wield two maces and body-parts will start flying. Besides, he aids comic effect to the game.
5) Edwin - magic powerhouse of the game, specialist mage, interesting NPC quest, interesting personality.
As for not-so-favorite....I'll take Cernd....can't really fight, low hitpoint, no armor, only druid weapon......

1. Korgan. I love this guy. A dwarf after my own heart, or lack of therein.
2. Jan. Funniest character in the game, hands down. The only thief aside from Yoshimo that's of any worth, and he's a backup mage, too.
3. Jaheira. Sort of like a Russian version of my girlfriend, except less evil. Give her a strength booster and iron skins and she's priceless. Still, I've got to admit, I mainly keep her around because of the aforementioned resemblance.
4. Edwin. Edwin would be number one if it weren't for his personality. I don't usually mind it, but sometimes I really want to smash his face into a wall. Best mage, easily.
5. Viconia. Best cleric, since the only other choices are Aerie, who's a multiclass, and Anomen, who's a dickhead. As for her personality, she's the 'bad girl'. Entertaining to have around.

Most hated? Anomen. Poncy do-gooder prettyboy. Second, Nalia. Whinging holier-than-thou noble. Third, Haer'Dalis. Bragging idiot yuppee. SPEAK COMMON, YOU MORON. Fourth, Aerie. Whine, whine, whine...

Hopefully the persecution for my number one choice will be minimal, but personally i like Mazzy. I like her not because of her specific strengths or weaknesses, but because as far as role playing goes shes about as loyal a friend as anyone can have. She also has a very cool background, the fact that she strives to be a Paladin although she knows that she can never truly attain the righteous status nor will she ever be truly accepted by society as a Paladin (primarily due to her size and race) The culmination of the abovementioned has given Mazzy a secure position in my group.....that and the fact that she now refuses to leave

Korgan, the best fighte in the game, his rage ability is priceless
Jan, the only one that can be used as a thief (expect yoshimo, but everybody knows that story) and because of his ano the orc story
anomen, also one of the best fighters in the game, cast some cleric spells on him and send him with a mace into battle (may need gauntlets of dexterity)
and of course boo, the best hamster in the game,


the worst are probably jaheira,(she can't do nothing, but i keep her just for fun, i played the game 6 times and i always had her in the party) and that bard faggot, hate his ignorance, he could join the baptists..... and aerie and nalia, they suck

3 Anomen - He's a Fighter/Cleric that's enough
4 Jan - Well He got those special equipment so that's good
5 Coran - Not really a NPC but he's in the game

The provisional winner of the 'best' category is Korgan. Both Jan and Jaheira got more votes, but 3 separate people reckoned Korgan their no 1. So bloodthirsty dwarves are the flavo(u)r of the month.
