The normal dual-wielding feats (Two-Weapon Fighting, Ambidexterity and Improved Two-Weapon Fighting) work equally well in combination with any kind of armor. Rangers get a feat called Dual Wielding, which basically is Two-Weapon Fighting plus Ambidexterity in one, but it only works when wearing light armor, or none at all. A ranger could dual-wield wearing heavier armor, but then you'd have to give him those feats. I'd say, for the build you're aiming for, forget about ranger levels. The things you gain aren't worth the loss of fighter's bonus feats.

Remember Legolas? He didn't wear heavy clunking armour whilst wielding those short swords of his....

That's true, but if we are going to assign a dnd class to Legolas, I'd say he was probably more along the lines of AA. If I were going to build him, I'd go bard/aa, or maybe sorc, to reflect the natural magic that was inherent in Tolkien's elves. Go back to the Hobbit, and note the power that was in the songs they sang, when the party first gets to Rivendell.

Thanks for the information. I've gone with Katana and Kuri.

Now I have another question or two
1 - I've never known what is the best ranged weapon to take (sling, bow x-bow) can you let me know what you take and why?
2 - I was thinking instead of WM levels to thae RDD for the str bonus. what would be the difference between taking bard or sorcerer levels? I'm not sure I'll actually do this, but I'm just wondering.

Cheers

1) Crossbows do the best basic damage of all missile weapons, but they require an extra feat to get as many attacks per round as the others. Without this feat, you'll only be getting one attack each round when shooting a crossbow.
For a predominately melee-oriented character who will be using ranged weapons only occasionally, I'd say go with longbow. Pretty good basic damage and you needn't dish out an extra feat point to make them effective.

True, you'd just need a higher dex. My personal preference is to take the lvls in bard, however, this is starting a fresh char planning on taking RDD. Other than the bard song, the two classes are quite similar. Same hit die, same spells, etc. However, the advantage to bard is UMD, and some rogue skills. I know, I hear some one out there thinking, but I'm a sorc, I can use magic devices. Sure you can, go get you a scroll of prayer, and try to use it. It's divine magic, you won't be able to. But if your a bard...While running through EfU one night, one of the players in party said, hey, there are some bard scrolls over here, to which I replied, they are all bard scrolls.

Cool, I'll go with longbow then.
I'll have to put some thought in weather to go WM or bard RDD, the thought of getting UMD and some rogue skills is quite appealing.
Another question. If I find an item that gives you a 'free' feat, say Dodge, if I wanted mobility could I just take it at the next opportunity or would have to still take the Dodge feat?
Cheers

Not 100% sure, but I would be very surprised if that works. Just like wearing a Girdle of Storm Giant Strength might easily give you 25+ STR, but won't enable you to take Devastating Critical if your base score is lower.

Spot on correct.

Unfortunately, in order to get a feat such as mobility that requires dodge, your character must have the dodge as an innate feat, rather than acquiring it via some equipment/weapon.

Thought that would be the case, just wanted to make sure.
As I've gone Str based, to get a bit more damage. Any suggestions on Good feats to take? So far I’ve got Ambidex, Two weapon fighting, Exotic weapons, weapon focus on Katana and Kukri. Next I’m thinking about weapon specialisation for the 2 weapons. So what should I go for after that? Should it be things like power attack and cleave etc or ones to improve saving throws, or go for the resistance ones (poison, disease etc)
Cheers
