I dont go any where on the net without zone alarm and vet virus scaner on, especially so if im downloading off kazaa. Most search engines have filters for getting rid of porn, but when doing searches with school computers you have to be careful that someone hasnt turned it off (perfect setup)! SecretMaster go to preferences on the main google page to see that if its turned on.

It wasn't just nostalgia that brought this to mind. After all, how fun is it to program using star cards and punch cards. What really struck me is that pranks or hacking back then were for humor and not to vandalize or destroy data or machines. To draw a parallel from one of Arvon's jokes; you have to do more to protect your computer than you do in real life for safe sex.

I can't really reminisce on the old days of the net as I first started using it around 4 years ago and it was already pretty established then. I didn't even have email before then. However, I can do the nostalgia thing on computers in general.
*sigh* I remember my old Commodore 4+ with the games on magnetic tapes that took about 10 minutes to load. LMAO! We got our first PC when I was 6, it was an 8MHz IBM Compatible XT with a 20MB HD. Woohoo! I used to play Simcity 1 on it

What really strikes me is the immaturity of todays crackers (not hackers - hackers are the "good" guys). When I got into trouble on the timeshare machine, the worst I ever did was waste a box of lineprinter paper (man, did the sysop ever get pissed over that! I guess his budget was a difficult thing... )

Nowadays, they deliberately design virii to bring down network servers "for fun" and don't think twice about the consequences or cost.

I do remember those days, vaguely.... but you know, it's like a lot of other things in life, antryg. We don't (most of us anyway!) leave our cars or houses unlocked when we aren't in them and we don't trust strangers with our kids as much as we might have a few decades ago. Seems like lots of things have gone from the 'innocent age' to the 'paranoid age' we are in now. Shame, really, but instead of automatically assuming everyone you meet in rl or online is an honest, trustworthy soul, you have to assume they might not be first.

I remember when I first went to the net or "web" which it was called where I am from. My dad took me with him to work and he saw that I was getting bored. He then left me in a room with a computor and my dad said "Son this is the web you can search for anything you want here. Cars, games Por I mean free parking and other things." He left and I was wide eyed newibie never have I imagned going one place to another finding anything I want! When my dad took me home I asked if I can come back with him to work. Heh soon after we left and I didn't use the Internet again till school started again and I have been stuck here since....

I remember when Yahoo had no ads...and you could get your site listed in about a month, for free.

But the Internet was born because of the want for more money, shops, just money. Porn is BIG money.

Hence now why tehre are so many porn sites, pop-ups, its just all about money.
