I was just wondering if anyone has heard of an add-on for Icewind Dale, I really hope Black Isle is going to develop an add-on but with the sequel to BG they might not do it. It would be good if they made it because there are quite alot of un-answered questions in IWD, like the Nym "quest" and the secret room in Kuldahar.

Here...I will make it easy for everyone, so you don't have to go looking for hard-core evidence...

Icewind Dale Update Updated by: MageDragon
The official Icewind Dale page has an update by Darren Monahan (Producer).
What up peeps!

So it's been awhile for me, but today I have the pleasure to finally announce that the team who brought you Icewind Dale has officially announced the new Icewind Dale expansion pack, entitled, "Icewind Dale: Heart of Winter" We've got a whole bunch of new stuff planned like:

· 800x600 resolution support (which works on the original game as well) OH MY!

· Drop away interfaces to play in fullscreen

· Improved OpenGL 3D support!

· Gem bags and scroll cases to assist with all those, well, gems and scrolls!

· Nearly 60 new spells for wizards, clerics, and druids (probably more considering what these designers try to slip past me)

· More than 80 new magic items, even refinements to items in the original game

· A higher experience point cap, tentatively set at 2,900,000 allowing for mega-high level characters.

· Hotkey for showing items on the ground and doorways, which is nice for looting those mounds of dead corpses littering the floor .

We've been working hard on it for the past month or two, and in Black Isle style, we will have a whole bunch of free stuff to check out and download coming soon, so be sure to stop back often.

Oh, I should probably go over a little bit about the story! The expansion takes you to the northernmost town of Lonelywood, one of the Ten Towns in the region. Native barbarians have been organizing hordes of warriors to sweep across the region razing each of the Ten Towns in their wake. A mysterious traveler enlists the aid of your party to help stop what he believes is a grave mistake. For the sheen of gold, or the principle of justice, it is up to you to stop the storm of conflict. And of course, there's much more to it than that, but hey!

J.E. Sawyer Interviews Updated by: MageDragon
Gamers.com has posted a small interview with J.E. Sawyer (Designer) about the new expansion for Icewind Dale: Heart of Winter.
Gamers.com: How many hours of gameplay will the expansion add?

Sawyer: In terms of the number of screens, Heart of Winter is a bit larger than the entirety of Lower Dorn's Deep in the original game. We believe players should get an additional 15 to 25 hours of gameplay out of the expansion.
RPGVault has also posted an interview with J.E. Sawyer (Designer) about Icewind Dale: Heart of Winter.
RPGVault: Where does development stand at the moment? What has actually been done so far in terms of areas and features?

J.E. Sawyer: We've created the first two areas of the expansion: Lonelywood and the Barbarian Camp. Lonelywood is content complete, and the Barbarian Camp is being populated at this moment by the capable mind and hands of John Deiley. We're developing the areas sequentially, so I'll be implementing the Burial Isle soon. 800x600 support is already in the game, as are drop-away interface panels. Jake is working on implementing gem bags and scroll cases and Rich is driving through the spell list.

Icewind Dale Expansion Announced Updated by: Silverdawn
After much speculation (and Baldur's Gate II arriving on stores), Black Isle Studios has revealed that they are indeed making an expansion adventure for Icewind Dale. As always, read BGC for the latest on Icewind Dale: Heart of Winter.
Black Isle Studios Announces New Expansion Product for Icewind Dale; (New Storyline & Enhanced Features for Popular Role-Playing Game)

IRVINE, Calif., Sept. 25 /PRNewswire/ -- Black Isle Studios, the role-playing game division of Interplay Entertainment Corp. (Nasdaq: IPLY - news), announced today plans to release an expansion pack for its popular role-playing game Icewind Dale(TM). Developed internally, the new product, Icewind Dale(TM): Heart of Winter will offer more classic dungeon crawl using the Advanced Dungeons & Dragons® Second Edition rules under license from Wizards of the Coast, including new monsters, spells, and areas to explore within the Forgotten Realms® campaign setting. Based in part on the series of books by New York Times best-selling author R.A. Salvatore, Icewind Dale: Heart of Winter will also offer many new technological and gameplay enhancements to the original game including higher resolution, new gem bags, and scroll cases.

``Icewind Dale exceeded all of our expectations, and is another product that Black Isle is proud of,'' stated Feargus Urquhart, Director of Black Isle. ``It truly reminds us of our early days of playing D&D and the expansion pack adds another dimension to this with higher resolution graphics and many new areas to explore.''

The original Icewind Dale has received significant critical acclaim in the gaming media. ``Icewind Dale is a first-rate D&D dungeon romp,'' said Computer Gaming World. ``Once again, Black Isle has succeeded admirably in creating a game that both the casual gamer and hardcore roleplayer can enjoy.'' Computer Gaming World awarded Icewind Dale with an editors' choice award in their October 2000 issue.

Icewind Dale: Heart of Winter incorporates the award-winning gameplay elements found in Icewind Dale, offering players the ability to hone their combat skills, and achieve more powerful possessions, spells, and experience. Supporting 800 x 600 high resolution graphics and improved OpenGL 3D support (developed by Bioware for Baldur's Gate II: Shadows of Amn(TM)), Icewind Dale: Heart of Winter adds new spells including the wizard's Abi-Dalzim's Horrid Wilting and the cleric's spell of Blade Barrier. Players will be able to explore five new treacherous lands, as well as Lonelywood (another of the Ten Towns), and encounter new creatures including Barbarians, undead, Remorhaz (polar worms) and more. Icewind Dale: Heart of Winter will also feature powerful new magical items like The Ring of the Will-o-Wisp, which allows the wearer to shoot a shower of electricity at enemies, and the Vexed Armor, a suit of armor inhabited by a demon, where the demon inside can destroy the wearer and go on a destructive rampage.

The Icewind Dale: Heart of Winter expansion makes use of a modified version of the award-winning BioWare Infinity Engine(TM), originally developed by BioWare for Baldur's Gate(TM), and the forthcoming, Baldur's Gate II: Shadows of Amn. Icewind Dale: Heart of Winter offers novice and advanced players more challenges, allowing them to reach levels upwards of 22nd depending on the character.

Icewind Dale: Heart of Winter is being developed in-house at Black Isle, and will be available for Windows® 95/98-based computers. Icewind Dale: Heart of Winter expansion will require an installed copy of the original Icewind Dale in order to run. Complete information on Icewind Dale: Heart of Winter can be found at http://www.interplay.com/icewind.
