Well better late than never. I just got BG2 and I was wondering what the veteran players thought was a better way to go: Start with a new character or import from BG1? When I finished BG1 I ended with a half-elven Ranger that I liked alot. But that was ages ago and I uninstalled the game. Can one still import from the Final Save folder and if so how? If you answer this question please spell it out in terms that a moron can understand, which would be me! Or, as I have asked, is it better to begin anew and if so why? Thanks for all your help.

I would say import in if you want a stronger character. This way your character has the benefit of the Tomes. For example, my Bard(BG1) that I'm playing now will be kit into a Blade, but because of the tomes, he'll have 19 Str (+3/+7), 18 Dex, 17 Con, 17 Int, 10 Wis, and 16 Cha. I had to roll a while to get the stats, but I was on hold with Dell so I had nothing better to do anyway. I'm probably going to use gatekeeper or shadowkeeper to lower his stats though, it's too easy with such a strong character.
And, if you start anew, you can be one of the new classes. The Sorceror is pretty cool, as long as you pick your spells right. As for importing it. I'm not sure if it's possible to extract the character from the save folder. I think you'd have to re install the game, and export the character from the loaded file...I could be wrong though. |

If the save-folder is still there, you only have to go there, copy the final save and paste it into the save-folder of BG2

From a roleplaying perspective you probably will prefer to continue your adventure with your old character. Also as was mentioned the bonuses you get from the tomes is a good reason to import. then again there are alot more cool choices in BG II so you may want to try a new class or a kit from one of the other classes.
PS: if it helps your decision any I found BG II to be alot less geared towards archery than BG I was. In BG II there is alot of high level spellcasters and there is a big need for beefy warriors. Thats not to say that archers are not good in BG II but just not as good as in BG I. [This message has been edited by deathknight (edited 09-28-2001).] |
