Just to be sure, skaven: Did you also clear the "inaccessable Buildings-problem", that occures in XP? At the start of the game, I did'nt notice this problem at all, thinking some of the buildings in Valleia are just decoration.

I did a search of the forum and didn't find inaccessable buildings but I'm pretty sure that isn't the problem because I can't even get to the main menu. It's ok though I've sorta given up on getting it to run on XP and will stick to virtualpc. It runs great except for when I use the keyboard to move it sometimes sticks and will keep moving in that direction. That's easy to get around though I just use the mouse.

Well I'm off to kick some snake worshipping butt.

Thanks for the welcome and tips guys.

Hi, im having the exact same problem as you and i really want to play w&w again.
I downloaded and installed virtual pc but whenever i try to play the game it lags sooooo bad its completely impossible to play like 1fps. Well ive tried boostin virtual pc's performance as best i can, Are there any tweaks i need to do to get it to run smoothly on virtual pc (i have windows 98 on virtual pc)

My current system specs are:
Core Duo e6700, 2.66GHZ
2GB of ram
Nvidia 8600gt graphics card
Windows XP profesional sp2
direct x 9.0c

I would normally suggest using the compatibility wizard, but having Windows 98 on your Virtual PC should take care of that problem. You could try running some other older programs on your Virtual PC and see if they work, if they do it is a pure W&W problem.

Iam the guy from the tech thread that had a problem with the mouse not working. I have upgraded and thought I would try this game again and now I get the same problem at the thread poster, a cannot write to memory error on start up as soon as the hour glass starts animating....! As I have a dual core, that must have something to do with it, but I have used imagecfg to make it just use one core and still have the problem.

I have got this game working in Virtual PC - but granted, you need a Win98 OS CD to install into it. Assuming you have/can get that CD, it is the easiest way to go. That's not to say that some people seem to have got this game working in XP, but I think it depending on what hardware you have. I have never got the game totally working in XP myself.
