Although I do not yet have it installed, I have some new hardware to put into the old machine. Care to take a look?

Motherboard = Intel D8550EMV2 - 533 Mhz. - RDRAM up to 2G.
Pentium 4 = 1.8 GHz

Memory = 512 RDRAM (two slots) - Will be adding another 512 Monday

New case includes 5 fans and 2 extra frontal USB ports
Power Supply is 300 Watts

As well, my video card has a fan, and the processor comes with a heck of a huge fan...so I got 7 fans running.

Wow dude, with so many fans in your comp, you can keep your beer nice and cool if you put it right next to it !

KHaN just got me a new motherboard (KT3 Ultra Series), pcu (1.4ghz), some outrageous amount of memory and a hardrive (western digital 80GB) yesterday...what am I supposed to do with 80 gig lol...I couldn't even fill the 8 that the old one had!
Talk about an upgrade lol...my old pcu was a 450mhz.

I can't wait to hear you tell us all about it when you get it set up!
Congrats!

i just recently got an new 60 Gb hard drive, upgraded to 256 MB of ram and just before that got a new motherboard and processor (1.4Ghz athlon) and yet my computer still runs like a dead sloath tied to a post going backwards in a traffic jam. mainly because of my voodoo 5500 i think. or maybe its the two viruses i installed (AOL and Windows).

LOL Bruce! I hear ya! AOL was the last thing I installed last night...unfortunately I am going to be forced to install Microsoft Office in a few weeks so KHaN can do his homework for the courses he is taking this summer (I have the printer...he has no room for it). The only thing good about that is that my vacation gets extended until the fall semester starts up again lol.

I hope you did a clean install of the OS after you installed all that new hardware. If not, that's why it's running so slow, Windows is looking for old hardware that's not their and getting confused because it can't find it.

Sorry, I did not say that right. There are four slots to fill, but I only currently have memory to fill two slots.

If your computers are running slow try tweaking your BIOS.
Restart your comp and tap delete (or whatever gets you there, not all systems are alike) To get into BIOS.

Look for something called System Acceleration, or something to its equivilant. ENABLE it.

Find the line where it says:
Floppy drive seek on startup: DISABLE it.
This reduces boot up time by having one thing less for your BIOS to have to look for. Dont worry, your floppy will still be fine once you get into your OS. You'll also increase the life of the floppy because it wont have to turn every time you start your computer.

Graphics Aperture Size: should be equal to the amount of ram you have. Unless you have more than 256 meg of RAM. If you have more than 256 meg of RAM it should be at the highest setting, usually 256.

Never install a "plug and play" operating system. Disable this in BIOS. What happens is, if its set up as PnP (for short) BIOS has to handle/load ALL DRIVERS CARDS ect EVERY time you start your comp. Its MUCH faster to let Windows handle this function.

I hope that helps somebody at least a little.
