3 days ago, I updated America Online from version 9.0 to 9.0a. It slowed down my computer a lot...plus it just looked plain ugly . So I uninstalled it and went back to 9.0. However, ever since that update, IE 6 has been messed up. If I open up 2 or more windows of IE at once, I won't be able to exit them with out using control + alt + delete, which is extremely annoying. I went through Add/Remove programs and found the following programs that I don't remember having on the list there before:

-Internet Optimizer
-Internet Explorer Q832894
-IE Win-enhancer
-Help Finder
-Help Features
-AOL Coach Version 1.0 (Build: 20040229.1 en)
-AOL Connectivity Services
-AOL

I removed Q832894 because a site said that you shouldn't apply this patch if you have IE6, only if you have IE6 s1 or something like that. I removed IE Win-enhancer as a test to see if it would get rid of the problem. I know it was stupid to remove it with out knowing what it is, but I'm extremely annoyed. I think that AOL Connectivity Services is just a program for my internet cable connection, but I'm not sure.
Also, whenever I open up IE, there is an add at the top of the page. The shortcut on it is http://servedby.advertising.com/clic.../bnum=70554751 and I've never had it there until I updated AOL to 9.0a. Can anyone help me fix IE?

You might have to uninstall IE 9.0a...you can do this by going to Start then go to the Control Panel, click on Add/Remove programs, click on the program you want to remove and then remove it.
Hopefully this will work.

I didn't update IE, I updated AOL to AOL 9.0a. I removed AOL 9.0a through the add/remove programs, but the problem is still there.

AOL is a bitch that takes over your system and wants to control your browsing. Try installing an alternate browser, I bet you that won't have any problems with that. Unfortunately, I have no idea how to fix IE since you can't really uninstall it to reinstall it like other apps. Even in add/remove windows components, you can only get rid of its shortcuts

Lauren dear, IE is only up to version 6 and as I said, you can't uninstall IE

www.mozilla.org

I'd give mozilla a try, even if you get IE fixed. It has an in-built pop-up blocker, and also most bits of spyware and browser hijackers are written for IE, so it's relatively safe from that. Can't offer more than that, I'm afraid, but I hope you get IE fixed.

Uninstall IE Win-Enhancer and Internet Optimizer - they're well-known troublemakers.

And for my part, I would recommend Opera www.opera.com - less 'clunky' than Mozilla in my opinion

I'd recommend Opera too - that's what I'm using now for browsing and email. It's better than IE in every single way but two:

1. incompatibility with a small number of sites
2. for accessing FTP directories
