So all this time I could have had "The Power" just by playing D&D???

Man, I feel so misguided! How do I learn how to cast real spells and stuff? Sign me up!

ROTFLMAO!!

khazadman - this has nothing to do with being strong of faith and not wanting to stray from the tenets of that faith. Either I'm completely misinformed or Christianity is a religion of love - or at least claims to be so. I don't see how preaching intolerance even to other religious people (among them every Christian who believes in doing good deeds and who doesn't follow his exact line of thinking) has anything to do with being a Christian.

Saz, I doubt that there are many people for whom Chick's is the only form of Christianity they know, but if they do, let's hope they have the two-and-a-half braincells required to see what absolute drivel the man is spouting.

Rudy - wow, what a story. They actually became violent? That sure gives one a better idea of exactly what kind of deluded imbeciles subscribe to these ideas.

Actually, his work is a primer in what can happen when you let yourself get too involved in any cause, to the point where you think that you are the only one that is right and become completely intolerant and blind to any other viewpoint.

Christianity and the other world religions may pay lip service to the tenets of tolerance and love, but let's not forget that, until the modern age when nationalism largely supplanted religion as the motivating political force, virtually all of the world's wars and conflicts were precipitated by religions.

The sad thing was: the guy seemed REALLY sincere. He was just badly misinformed, and wasn't very well-versed in the Bible, or in the doctrines of whatever religion he was associated with. He couldn't answer simple questions, or face simple facts. So he reacted.
The good news is that it gave the security folks a reason to make them leave.
The bad news: I could have WIPED the floor with him. But I had just spoken to him and his group about Christian tolerance, and the fact that the gamers at the convention were all mild-mannered. Ironic...

I remember these kinds of tracts from the late 1970s; even at the age of 8 I thought they were mean and/or unbelievable. The one about D&D was around when I first heard the urban legend of some kids who killed themselves because their characters died. Undoubtedly, there must be some connection.

These are just more examples of someone abusing his First Amendment rights to spread a message of hate.

Also, I'm not even going to comment on parallels between Christianity and older religions....

embarrassing personal revelation: these tracts remind me of my own brother.

4. Rogue (or Thief or Bard).

The question still stands. Why would a Christian wish to involve themselves in such a game?
1: ... YOU LEFT OUT RANGERS, NECROMANCERS, all the things I like being.
2: Why would a Christian blame somehting they don't fully understand and burn it in public. Why would someone like this guy actually PERMIT and ALLOW himself to become evil HIMSELF in trying to make such persecutions...

No offense or anything, but this stuff is absolute rubbish. ANyone who uses GOD to patronize something which they, themselves, haven't fully researched is an absolute maniac! D&D is not a game of WORSHIP it is a game of Mathamatics and Consequences! You are blaming people's actions on a scapegoat! Excuse me but it was this same foolishness that lead Mexican preists to burn all Aztech Knowledge, and years later to cut up Pikachu Dolls with swords in sunday school. It also lead to the Cruisades and the Spanish Inquisition! Judge not lest ye be judged I say! and may the lord have mercy on the soul of ANYONE who would dare opose another individuals beliefes by falsifying the content or patronizing them. What this is is HARRASMNENT. Dungeons and Dragons wasn't sometihng that appeared from the Bowels of hell, it was invented by a couple of REALLY bored guys in Wisconcin! I remind you that JESUS himself was put through such pursecutions, I cannot imagine that You would dare support such claims in the name of GOD. Rather you yourself are supporting Satan if anything. It is this sort of hatred which we don't need. I am Christian in the fact that I belive in Jesus Christ, and yet I play Dungeons and Dragons because it is something to do, it, like other games, is something for myself. I spend most of my time worrying about everyone else, and by playing this game it is like taking time off from the hussel and bussel of everyday life, I could RELAX in a thousand ways, but D&D requires strategy, mathematics, and luck just like chess. It is a game of skill to me. But it is run on a much more complicated and broader scale. I, at least, play the game while aknowledging that it is Still "just a game" . The COMIC stip which is on this site obviously portrays mentally retarted, drug abusing "Christians" if any Christians at all in it. No one should dare bring harm to themselves or others nor should you persecute. I belive that being a persecuter is like becoming more like pontiouse pilot. the fact is that it is damnable to actually damn something! and people like this should be ignored and burnt at their own crosses for what they "support" and "belive" the word of GOD is not somthing you strap on a bloody bumper sticker or a BULLET for which to fire from a gun! This man... this insideiouse "Chick Publications" can voice their oppinion as much as they want, but they should be BANNED from being able to spread this false word of God around the nation in such a way! If you are going to blame anyone, don't blame fake whitchcraft, or their parents, or their environment, it is their own decisions in life which they make which "damn" them in your own opinion. Nobody ever told the girl she HAD TO PLAY THE GAME nor did they tell her she had to SMOKE POT which she obviously also liked doing for a living

I've always thought of DnD as being an extention of my Christian Beliefs...try to follow me on this: The best party is one of racial tolerent groups, i.e. elves, humans, halfling, dwarfs, i.e. Clerics, Fighters, Mages, Thieves. They all have their place, and it is up to us to be tolerent of the differences and Rejoice in our differences. We are allowed to make our own choices (as in life) as to be good/evil and each has a consequence. It's how you play (live) that is important. Working as a group, strengthening the we instead of the me, and helping others (quests) is what life is all about.

BUT most importantly, it is a game. Just like Euchre, or Monopoly, or Trival Pursuit. It is only what you put into that matters. Or what you believe...

Exactly, BK. It's a game, and that should neither be exclusively Christian, or exclude Christians, from its play. I've known several Christians to be avid players, from many denominations, and in fact one of them was an Episcopalean (Anglican) priest.

Cheers,

Ah, mr Chicks work is finally popping up over here as well? He's been the laughing stock in many communities over the past few years, there's a pretty good parody made about it which can be found here. Unfortunately it's on a server with a bandwidth limit, so it is quite possible you won't be able to reach it now. Just try again later though, it's worth it.
