Best wishes to Sapper Mclean

I've just got off the phone to him and already i'm worried sick. My brothers oldest boy will be traveling out to Iraq this weekend to join operation operation TELIC in the city of Basra. A member of the Royal Engineers 22 Engineer Regiment. It will be his first posting and has never even flown before.

I’d just like to wish him good luck and to know that I’m thinking of him.

Is his name Sapper, or is that in reference to his engineer affiliation?

God Speed.

Sorry one and all ... Is name is Ian. Yes Sapper is his rank (like private) I thought it was a well known term.

And thankyou for the kind wishes.

The clue might be in Wellard's post.

A military operation in Iraq?? We Brits don't go in for flashy names like "enduring freedom" etc. We let a computer name them so we don't run into any trouble!
