Try making a new user called 'test_felix' and be sure to use a different email address. see if you can logon and post. If so, then we have found the problem.
I don`t think it`s the proxies causing it, he said that he CAN login from school, and CAN`T login from home. Since he can still login from school, it can`t be a corrupt account- if it were anything on the forum end, he wouldn`t have been able to post this message, right (and apparently it happens at other forums aswell) ?? Like Andrewas said, it probably isn`t the machine, since it`s been through a format.

Which leaves *drumroll*...
The ISP

or

A format-surviving virus.

Most likely the ISP, though- viruses are atleast a little more destructive than this, usually...
Ah. Hmm. Yeah, that is all I can think of too.. maybe his ISP's DNS is not updated or something is screwed up in a router between his ISP and our site via nameserver DNS.

I wonder, does he have AOL installed? at home?

Larry has this problem too.. on many sites as well. odd.

I doubt it`s DNS- with DNS problems, you usually can`t call on the URL at all, yet to post the links all call on the URL...
But, it`s worth a try.

Felix (or whoever is going to give him this message );
Do the following in blue, type what is in
plain textPressing [ENTER] at the end of each line
Start -> Run ->Command
CD C:\WINDOWS
Edit hosts.sam
Scroll right down to the bottom of the file, add the line:
24.129.133.61 www.ironworksforum.com
Save and Exit back to the DOS Prompt.
Edit lmhosts.sam
Scroll to the bottom, add the line:
www.ironworksforum.com 24.129.133.61
Save, exit.
Ren hosts.sam hosts
Ren lmhosts.sam lmhosts
Exit

If it is anything to do with the DNS protocols, that should overrule it.

I replied to your email about this, Felix - I asked you to check your DNS settings. Did you? I'll bet the reason you can't post is because your ISP hasn't updated their DNS servers - Lennon, Aelia and I had this problem some time ago. Call your ISP and tell them you can't connect to www.ironworksforum.com.

It's not just this site that I cannot access from home, and its not that i cant post, I cannot log-in full stop.
I can't check to see if I got another email off of you yet Memnoch, but I did not get the latter one mentioned.

But you can still READ the forums ??
What Operating System are you on, what browser are you on, and were those the same before you formatted ??

A) This isnt a DNS problem

B) making an ISP tech department admit they have a problem and getting them to fix it is far more trouble that its worth. Especialy given the hosts fix lennon described. However, I am inclined to think this is an ISP problem, albeit a more subtle one.

The only thing we can rule out for certain is the ESC server - because this affects other sites, plus Z promises its not the server. Also its not DNS because Felix can get into the site, just not login. Its not likley to be Felix's computer because its just been reformatted. Aside from viruses nothing survives a format unless you want it to and keep backups.

Viruses - now theres a thought. Ive never heard of one that interferes in this fasion though, but that dosent mean all that mch given the variety of viruses out there. If its a good stealth virus itll also disable virus scanners whenever it encounters them. Solution there would be to get your school tech to provide you with a copy of an anivirus emergency disc. All big organisations should have one.

Other than that its an ISP problem, but getting them to admit it without more information would be tricky.

Unless someone else in the area (england) is using the same ISP (NTL cable) theres not much to say. And if it is the ISP, then anyone else in the area wont be able to get through anyway. hm, felix is probly the most likley to know such a person, and if he could try through their connection we can rule out the ISP. Or not as the case may be.
