Is there any improvement running SoA/ToB under DirectX 8 instead of DirectX 7?

I don't want to go thru all the fuss of updating video drivers from DX7 to DX8 unless there is some advantage ...

( Video card = Geforce2 MX Prophet )

I know 3 people who got the thrill of reinstalling their entire system after DirectX 8. I was warned on pain of windows reinstall NOT to download it. Just my experience with it, aint touching it ;p

The problem you mentioned on having to reinstall was with DX8.0. If you get DX8.0a, then I haven't heard of a single problem.

Since 3dfx cards don't support DX8, then there isn't an advantage (minimal at most) to upgrading if you are running a Voodoo card. nVidia cards, on the other hand, do support DX8 and can see a slight improvement.
