Daddy is one twisted poem Mel. Very haunted woman Sylvia Plath was. Though I prefer Dylan Thomas when it comes to conflicted father poems. Do Not Go Gentle is one of my favorite (of many [img]tongue.gif[/img] ) poems.

I wouldn't compare Thomas to Plath, really. But they're both brilliant and came to sad ends...
Yes, Plath was a disturbed woman and Daddy is immensely disturbing and poignant, but I think it's also quite cynically humourous. I love it.
Do not go gentle into that good night is, , one of my favourite of many poems!! I admire Thomas so much for the pure craftmanship that went into writing a villanelle of such formal perfection without ever sounding contrived or reaching. Did you know John Cale (of the Velvet Underground, among other things) put this and some other Thomas poems to music?? Brilliantly done. Definitely recommended.

Hmm IIRC there were 3 hungarians involved: Teller, Wigner and Szilárd but probably many more from other nations too.


Yeah guess the surname first thing + addition of accents is making many known names unrecognisable but I thought it'd be too easy otherwise! Guess I was wrong!
