Default Robots of the future..In the present!

Well before I say anything about this

watch this video.

http://gizmodo.com/368651/new-video-...ing-its-spooky

So. What're your thoughts on this? Although its far too loud and clunky to be of actual use in warfare or domestic use. its still a surprising thing to see! The way it balances itself is amazing. I actually felt sorry for it when the guy kicked it, it was like "don't hurt that..mechanical thingamabob.." But imagine the possibilities with these things? I'm still in awe from watching that video..

I see this is another DARPA funded Robotic project... DARPA is really pushing the Robotic age. I can see where this is headed too.. Hell, in 10 years or so, ALL Tanks, Airplanes and fighter jets will be 100% robotically controlled. They will drop 'targeting probes' which are walking robotic things that can target the enemy and kill them.. It's gonna get crazy.. I have seen some crazy moves some of these test jets that are remotely controlled.. WOW.. no more worries about the 7g limit.. or is it 9? I forget... Less weight for the craft too..

Tanks will have perfect 1 mile+ vision, can spot things we can't and I'm sure they will have that technology that can detect WHERE gunfire or a shot (sniper) came from down to the inch.. (That's in South LA now)...

I just hope they don't allow the AI to take control... Can you say Skynet?

I think I'm more scared than in awe - so we're near a stage where it's not just a little thing on wheels and running up the stairs will leave it far behind. Then we stick a couple more computers in to allow for instant, on-the-ground decision making by a machine. Then we let it loose?

At what stage does the machine decide that we are inefficient and that we need to be sanitised for our own protection - oh no, my mistake that was just a novel by Isaac Asimov. Um...

That is impressive... recovery on ice is challenging, and while I'm sure they've only provided the good bits of video on this, it's still amazing.

I *suspect* the important limiting factor is power... at 340 pounds of carrying capacity, it can hold a lot of batteries, but what to do when they run out?

Although, on a brighter note, it *is* proof that at some point, something will be able to navigate my son's bedroom floor successfully...

It's so noisy, the enemy can probably be alerted by the noice from several miles away and be ready for the it. Plus it's kinda big and make an easy target?

The last few parts they showed didn't seem to be very loud, in regards to the robot itself. Yet, I could still here it's feet hitting the ground. Perhaps they've found a way to reduce the noise?

Edit: Just noticed, it may be AC powered on the inside (noticed the cords), which would probably decrease the noise. I dunno if that's the case, but it could be.
