No, I don't mean that Bush said he would blow up the world with Nuclear Warheads in a broadcast, just that he thinks God would support him if he decided too.

I'm not too sure about the whole "God Bless America" thing. I don't say "God Bless England" or "God Bless Ireland", if I did I'd get a few raised eyebrows.

I tried raising my eyebrow then, it didn't work. I'll have to do it with my finger....

God can't be everywhere at the same time, he's too busy saving your queen.

Yeah, I hate the Queen, and that wretched National Anthem.

The Queen does not need saving. She's got enough money to buy a new God to save her!

Well, I'm a Canadian who does agree that seing an American Flag flowing around every three minutes in a movie is annoying. Then again, let's not forget that the majority of the audience IS American. Those are American movies, made for Americans and watched by Americans.

Many have problems with American national pride. I envy it!

Our national pride (Canada) is punctured by two deep divisions: 1- French-English 2- People who support the Queen of Canada [read England] and those who don't.

To go back to the actual quote, I'd much rather have to deal with "God Bless Canada" or America than "God save the Queen". At least one blesses a country and all of it's inhabitants rather than raising a single one of them to a God like stature.

You make it seem as if there would be no morality there if there wasn't religion in the White House. But we won't go down this path again...

LOL - so let me see.. You live in a small town in Texas and are home schooled. I'm guessing that you haven't travelled much. On what are you basing your poor opinion of the English?
No offense, Donut, but I cite you as proof of British patriotism. You are VERY quick to rush to the defense of the crown when anyone questions the way England does anything. I'm not saying this is bad, nor am I flaming. I am simply saying that we have a discussion question regarding patriotism in other countries and you make good empiracle evidence.

On US Nationalism. I've seen hints of it too. Any good American, IMO, disagrees with the government in at least some ways. Looking to movies about Germany, including Hitler:Rise of Evil but more poignantly Swing Kids, it is easy to see how nationalism can subtly spread. But, the mere hints I've seen amount to a drastic increase in patriotism, but not a true shift towards nationalism.

What's great is that post-9/11 the number of flags hanging around went up by a factor of 10 or 20. This is evidence of our ability as a nation to pull together in times of crisis. Terrorists have ironically done a lot for American pride.

Just exactly what is your source for this extremely offensive posting? The President is religious, just as the majority of Americans are, and just like Roosevelt (and Jimmy Carter, whom some Europeans seem toregard as some kind of paragon) was.

Sorry Timber, this just proves that you know little about me. What I will do is try to correct factual errors.

I would very much like to see an example of me rushing to the defence of the crown! The very thought makes me chuckle.

Yeah, patriotism's a good thing... but I'm not going to post any more on the subject because I sense this thread will blow up soon (with or without my help )

Timber never said you advocated the Crown, Donut. He said you were a patriotic British citizen. One can love one's country with out loving the gubermint and it's figure heads. He's right too, you are very quick correct misconceptions about Brit(t)ain and England. If you didn't care (read: weren't patriotic - to some extent at least) you wouldn't bother. He wasn't insulting you.
