Subject: Bush Won't Do It....so WE WILL!
From: Loree

Normally, I am like most of the rest of you....I 'hate' those idiotic chanin e-mails that clutter up my Inbox....but this one is DIFFERENT....it won't cost anyone anyting more than only a few minutes of your time, and it could save ALL Americans a BUNDLE, if we work together.

From my inbox:

IT HAS BEEN CALCULATED THAT IF EVERYONE IN THE UNITED STATES DID NOT
> PURCHASE A DROP OF GASOLINE FOR ONE DAY AND ALL AT THE SAME TIME, THE OIL
> COMPANIES WOULD CHOKE ON THEIR STOCKPILES.
>
> AT THE SAME TIME IT WOULD HIT THE ENTIRE INDUSTRY WITH A NET LOSS OF OVER
> 4.6 BILLION DOLLARS WHICH AFFECTS THE BOTTOM LINES OF THE OIL COMPANIES.
>
> THEREFORE MAY 19TH HAS BEEN FORMALLY DECLARED "STICK IT UP THEIR behind "
> DAY AND THE PEOPLE OF THIS NATION SHOULD NOT BUY A SINGLE DROP OF GASOLINE
> THAT DAY.

> THE ONLY WAY THIS CAN BE DONE IS IF YOU FORWARD THIS E-MAIL TO AS MANY
> PEOPLE AS YOU CAN AND AS QUICKLY AS YOU CAN TO GET THE WORD OUT.

> WAITING ON THIS ADMIINSTRATION TO STEP IN AND CONTROL THE PRICES IS NOT
> GOING TO HAPPEN. WHAT HAPPENED TO THE REDUCTION AND CONTROL IN PRICES THAT
> THE ARAB NATIONS PROMISED TWO WEEKS AGO?

> REMEMBER ONE THING, NOT ONLY IS THE PRICE OF GASOLINE GOING UP BUT AT THE
> SAME TIME AIRLINES ARE FORCED TO RAISE THEIR PRICES, TRUCKING COMPANIES
ARE
> FORCED TO RAISE THEIR PRICES WHICH EFFECTS PRICES ON EVERYTHING THAT IS
> SHIPPED. THINGS LIKE FOOD, CLOTHING, BUILDING MATERIALS, MEDICAL SUPPLIES
> ETC. WHO PAYS IN THE END? WE DO!

> WE CAN MAKE A DIFFERENCE. IF THEY DON'T GET THE MESSAGE AFTER ONE DAY, WE
> WILL DO IT AGAIN AND AGAIN.

> SO DO YOUR PART AND SPREAD THE WORD. FORWARD THIS EMAIL TO EVERYONE YOU
> KNOW. MARK YOUR CALENDARS AND MAKE MAY 19TH A DAY THAT THE CITIZENS OF THE
> UNITED STATES SAY "ENOUGH IS ENOUGH"

I think the oil companies won't even notice. However, sure, I'll not buy gas on the 19th. With gas prices pushing $2.50 here, I'm willing to do about anything to bring them down. Isn't there a country we can invade to fix this???

This comes up every time the price of gas goes up. It won't work. Most people buy gas the day before or the day after so the net is the same. You'd have to use public transit or car pools for several weeks before the would matter.

That's coz we don't have the mega taxes on it here (in most places) to pay for social programs.

Echoing Arvon...

This does come up every time gas prices go up or someone gets mad at the oil industry.

And it still doesn't work... because you either buy that gas (or petrol ) a day earlier or later. Oh, you really hit 'em hard in the pocketbook, didn't you... gave 'em their money on Tuesday instead of Wednesday.

If you really want to make a difference, switch to an alternate method of transportation, like a hybrid car, bicycle, or even good ol' footpower.

And naw, I'm not bitter or trying to poke fun at Jorath or anyone else who's responded. It's a noble idea, based on the boycotts of the 60s. The difference between those boycotts and not buying gas for a day is that they actually went without it...
