What an expedition!

While trying to get Daegen and Gruftyr leveled up in their new roles (Daegen just became a Samurai and Gruftyr just became a Bard...shocked me, even, a Dwarven bard, LOL! All he'll know are DRINKING songs...) we decided to wander the Shire a little bit and hope for some good encounters.

Wasn't it the Ancient Chinese that said the worst curse was getting what you wanted?

The party was meandering among the trees in the shire, just south of the lake; fought a couple of trolls and then some more swampflies; no biggies, then ran across some creeping spores.

Knowing what they did about the nasty nature of the flora in the Shire, they warily backed off while Sanjay incinerated the fungi.

Great...that was some good experience. Okay, now they cautiously began to investigate the next meadow over...

and Tamerin pipes up..."I sense Amazoni Mantraps."

The others tell him he's been hitting the elven firewater again too much. They took care of the Mantrap problem earlier.

Tamerin is insistent. "Guys, you better pay attention...I definitely sense Mantraps!"

And then their hearts froze. Coming across the shire at them was an ARMY of freakin' mantraps! SIX AMAZONI MANTRAPS!

(ASIDE: I think I must now hold the record for the largest number of randomly spawned Mantraps at one occurrence).

The adventurers laughed in the face of danger! They spat in the eye of evil! They thumbed their noses at death!...

...they ran like pigs from an axe.

The Mantraps were in hot pursuit. Fortunately, the adventurers were able to make it through the narrow passage through the trees near the burned-out house, turned around, and Sanjay and Jeroboa both took turns nuking the veracious vegetation.

Well, needless to say, Daegen and Gruftyr went up a couple of levels (from 3 to 5), Tamerin went up another Ninja level, and everyone survived to tell the tale.

It must be that time of year in the Shire...

P.S. Word of advice to everyone: Get the Scout skill and train in it!! It's one of the more overlooked skills, but it can really save your can in a pinch. My gang would have never been on the alert had Tamerin not clued them in to the presence of all the Mantraps...they would have been toast.

Wow! Six Mantraps at one time?! That must have required some fancy footwork and quick thinking. Coleslaw for dinner tonight!

Hehe, Wyvern! I don't think so; probably some of his evil brothers!

Hugh is a lover, not a fighter!
